Texas LB treated for concussion after crash -- Jun 29, 4:51 pm EDT
AUSTIN, Texas (AP)—Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle was treated for a concussion after crashing his car into an Austin apartment building last week while he was either sending or receiving a text message, his attorney said Monday.
Kindle’s attorney, Brian Roark, said Kindle lost control of the car on June 24 while looking at the message.
“It was probably something he should not have been doing,” Roark said.
The crash caused about $8,700 damage and no one inside was hurt. After the crash, Kindle pushed the car back into the street and went home. He was checked by team doctors and told he had a concussion but did not have to be hospitalized.
University spokesman John Bianco said Kindle told his coaches about the accident the next morning.
“We’re glad nobody else was hurt and he’s going to be fine,” Bianco said.
Police Cpl. Scott Perry said police are still investigating but no charges have been filed. Perry said police have not talked to Kindle or Roark.
Because Kindle hit a stationary object and did not injure anyone else, he is only required to file a report with the Texas Department of Transportation, Roark said, adding he planned to file it as early as Monday.
Roark said Kindle would pay for the damages himself or through insurance if it is covered.
Kindle, a senior from Dallas, had 10 sacks last season. In 2007, he missed the first three games while serving a suspension for a drunken driving arrest.
I know I am going on the proverbial limb here, but I find this amazing! And for those of you that are gonna be the ones that tell me that no one was hurt and he has to pay for the damages... big frikken azzz whoop.
I am constantly mystified by things like this. I have almost been the object that drivers using cellphones and concentrating on their conversations have come so close to hitting that I have pulled over, shaking.
I need to understand what could be such a matter of life or death that one cannot possibly wait a few hours, or in most cases, a few moments to talk about? Is it gonna be worth it when you finally do succeed in taking the life of an innocent driver or pedestrian? Are you ready and willing to pay the price of seeing the hurt in the eyes of the family of that loved one that you may as well have loaded a gun and shot between the eyes, or stabbed them to death, or beat them or whatever else you might attribute to violent act? Maybe those that use this form of death weapon don't believe it is on the same manner of those that consciously load a gun and fire it .. but make no mistake, the result is the same... and guess what? I would argue that it was premeditated because ONE CHOSE to get on that call, to divert the attention from driving, and violently and without just cause for doing so, took the life of an innocent bystander/driver/pedestrian.
There have been countless ads for drinking and driving .. and so there should be.. it is another form of murder.. and I would love to see the ads come on the TV not only promoting 800,000,000 people that are on your network at any time of day .. but saying that cellphones should not be used when driving. Driving takes concentration and attention.. how in the hell is it possible to give that attention the road and other drivers when laughing with others and telling them where you are going, what you are going to buy, etc., etc., etc... what the hell ever happened to quality time with a person one cares about and talking face-to-face with that person about what they may need or what they might enjoy doing each day? How in the hell did we all survive without having a phone at our fingertips to chat about stupid inconsequential things?
I will say this, if any of my family is ever maimed or killed by someone with a cellphone who is either blabbing or texting... you can bet your sweet patootey I will make you face the family.. I will let you see the damage you have caused, the love you took from us... but, in the long run, I believe it really won't matter.. because after you have done that you will most probably get on the cellphone and call whomever to complain about how hostile I was, how uncaring it was to do this to you, how selfish I was...
(and people .. afore you all get your tidy whiteys in a bunch .. I am using the common "you" as a generalization... but again, as my granddaddy used to say.. if the shoe fits....

I have to agree with you :
Texting , reading, putting on make up, shaving, arguing, sex , taking on the phone with out hands free ( bluetooth )
while driving are kinda crazy to me. But hay what do I know. not that I have almost been run over, run off the road. cut in frount of , or just plain cut off, by some doing those activies while driving.

I think its worse for men, because they cant multi task like women can,
My father always stops his conversation with me in the car when hes reaching a junction cos he has to concentrate!
Im not saying that its ok for women to risk lives, certainly NOT!.. putting on makeup or like I saw the other day.. a woman reaching in the back to tend to her baby whilst driving at 50 miles an hour! Crazy!!!!

There should be an "autoanswer/hold that says, give me 5 minutes to pull over...

GREAT BLOG... and Im with you on if its one of mine that is the victim .. the arse that caused the accident will be in the hospital hisself having the damn cell phone removed from his posterior When the Drunk driver hit my oldest daughter when I got there it was all my son in law could do to keep me from beating the living chit outta the drunk well that and a few policemen  people do NOT realize that a car is and can be a lethal weapon even if its not intentional
