Lottery scammers have taken it one step further. From e mails to sending letters with cheques inside.
Yesterday, I received a letter from Global financial services, saying I had won the Canadian sweepstake lottery for the amount of $450,000.00 The envelope was indeed stamped from Canada.
The letter went on to say that they were including a cheque for $4,800.00 to cover the cost of tax. Indeed, there WAS a cheque for $4,800 enclosed with the letter. I examined the cheque, and it was indeed real.
I was to call the claim hotline to get instructions on what to do next in order to claim the rest of my prize.
So.. instead, I went on to the internet and googled Global financial services.
Ohh dear! Well of course they are Nigerian scammers now operating from Canada.
What they do, is get you to cash the initial cheque of $4,800.00, with instructions on paying a particular Tax agent. The cheque clears, but then the cheque is returned leaving YOU with a debt to the bank.. AND they now have your bank details.
Note..
You can only win a lottery if you’ve entered one! Also.. lotteries do not contact YOU.
And if you ever receive a letter like this, NEVER cash the cheque. You will be arrested for fraud.
