In the Uk after 9pm, the watershed as its called, movies can be shown involving nudity and swearing, leaving to the parents to control what the children still up at that time see or not.
Here, I’ve noticed even late at night, the channels blur out anything that could be seen as distasteful, and whats annoying sometimes is when they voice over words.. you can clearly see the mouth saying F words, but words like damn come out instead. Its quite funny really I suppose.
But if its late at night, surely the kids should be in bed so whats the harm? The movie was made that way. I mean.. when you see a movie advertised with violence etc,and its rated that way, you know theres going to be swearing involved, and it adds to the character, making him more of a baddie so to speak and adds to the tension and feeling of the moment.
We watched Bruce Willis’s latest die hard movie the other night, his mouth was clearly saying many other words from what the voice over added. Its kind of silly to see a big action film with a guy saying “Go away!” when you can clearly see he said F* off!!
I wonder if they do auditions for people who sound like the actors to do the voice overs?
I am not saying that I like swearing, or indeed use such language myself, but a movie is different, and if its on late at night, I really think it spoils the film to have so many original sound bites replaced. And whats really weird, we watched a film last night about the life of a country singer in the 60’s, theres a scene where a man is standing there completely naked.. and front ways!
I nearly choked on my co co!!!
Im guessing its all about which channel it is youre watching.. but I must admit, it was quite a shock when one sits down with a bowl of popcorn to watch what was listed as a comedy!!!!!!!
