I've been searching for the article on this but can't find it. On our local news station tonight they showed a woman who is now walking because of this new surgery. What the surgery entails, I have no idea. So....if anyone knows the link which explains about this, I'd love to read about it. I have a friend who is a paraplegic. Thanx!

Here is one invention which allows paraplegics to walk again, but I don't think it is the one they were talking about that was going to be on the news tonight.

I know of a guy who had damaged nerves in his lower back from an industrial accident. He cannot walk because of this. He's semi-retired, on disability, 150 pounds overweight and loves to read anything and everything he can get his hands on. He read somewhere they were working on a new drug that showed promise to rebuilding nerve fibers. He believed he could take some pills and walk again.

I have a friend who became paralyzed with stenosis of the neck vertebrae. He was unable to feel his toes, feet, legs, fingers hands, arms and it was getting worse every month. Fortunately for him, the Veterans hospital arranged a free surgery by the top neurologist in his city. The doctor said he would start to feel tingling sensations in his fingers and toes within days from the surgery but he would need as much as a year to recover with the aid of weekly physical therapy. He's only recovered about 50-60% (needing a walker or cane to get around) and it could have been more if they were able to perform the surgery sooner and... if he had money for the rehabilitation/therapy that wasn't covered by the insurance.

Hopefully this procedure you saw wasn't the one in a million chance of success being hyped by the media looking for something medically newsworthy.

Try calling the TV station. They usually keep record of shows/articles that are aired. See if it's rebroadcast on the internet. The local stations here do that.
