I sit and watch the hummingbird at my window feeder and think to myself. Most of the time my thoughts are of really good things... the fields and how good they smell after Katie and I finish mowing them.. the flowers that are bursting open.. the rain that has fallen 26 out of the last 30 days here.
All the rain has made me all work and no play.. cuz the rain is keeping my grass and fields green for sure, but making me bust my butt to keep that growing in tow and maintaining the fields I fought so hard to bring into shape when I bought this 'here ole place a neigh 4 years ago.
Last evening before the rain set in.. I managed to get the lawnmower, not Katie, and I call it Elliott (after my Sammie love interest.. doncha know) and together we cut the large part of the front, the smaller part that wraps around to my garage door, the back hill done.. and this morning, though my intentions were good (what is it they say about good intentions.. oh yeah, the road to hell and all that ..) the rain blew in and thoroughly soaked the fields... tomorrow is promising not to sputter again until neigh late in the evening.. so I guess yall know where I will be. Which is good, as tomorrow is not an easy day for me.. July 4th has never been the same since 1977.
And then, on Sunday.. the role of all work will change as I head up to Benton to a Blue Grass Festival.. Every now and again, in order to wipe the chaffing away that the sandpaper people leave on me, I refuel my soul with things that make it swell.. good music, good friends and dancing seem to fit right well there...to allow a little bit of something perfect into my rather imperfect life. We all struggle toward perfection, we try to balance our imperfect lives so that we know how to enjoy and smile... and isn't that what it really is about?
And I think I will make a trip out to ole Shickshinny Joe's to pick me up some brew for the evenings of watching my fireflies out in the field, whilst I sit on the deck and listen to Braham's... I am looking for a change in brews.. any brew connoisseurs, how about hitting me up with something you would recommend to a friend.. wanna keep it a light color brew.. I find the darker ones to be much too bitter for my palette.
And because of the memories floating around this ole brain.. this is the song I will be listening to tomorrow.. because the words are those I would say to him... Happy 4th to everyone..
