Yeh, that about sizes up my life at the moment lol, at least I can laugh about it but sometimes it really does get to me, why I felt I had to vent this morning. It just feels better to get things out into the open. Too much stress is just a bad thing to have in your life. The amount I was bringing home on unemployment was just $36.00 a week so my savings went down quite a bit in order to pay my bills. I don't buy much, I pay a mortgage, I pay for food, nothing much else, well...I can't. I'm sure alot of you are in the same boat as me. I do still have a roof over my head, that is one good thing, for how long? That is anyone's guess. I tried starting my own business, well...I'm still working on that, trying to get customers. Today I will look into getting our business online, have a link to it. I'm no quitter. People say leave it in God's hands, I do believe there is a higher power, and I do pray that things will get better.

So how is everyone doing out there? I sure hope if you have lost a job you have found another and I hope that you still have a roof over your head and the necessities of life.

Well...you could always try to get a job (maybe you have been trying?) while waiting for your business to take off...it seems you have been trying to get it off the ground for some time. Furthering your education is always a good thing,,,,worked for me! Talking about problems doesn't work...action does

I've also been looking for a part time job until the business takes off, but....I can't even get interviews, geeeez.

I have a college background but no money to continue going. I had $17 to spend on groceries yesterday, that was it. I sold clothes at a consignment store to get that. I might sell my car once the money runs out, I don't want to lose my home.

Luneib...I'm in the same boat and being here in Michigan it is getting hard to find anything. I don't worry though...I keep my higher power very active and so far I too am blessed to have my own home, food in the fridge and so on...

I wish you much success in your up and coming buisness...

have you considered taking a job outside your field? Unemployment in Michigan is high. People are taking ANY job just to keep their homes and feed their families. I would be willing to work at McDonald's if I was going to lose everything I own. Good luck with your business and job hunting.

I can relate as well. I have put in applications every where I know to put them in. The economy just is not doing anything to benefit those without jobs right now. Here in Kentucky, the unemployment rate is over 10%. I didn't think you were setting at home doing nothing Luneib. It takes a lot of time and energy to get a business off the ground. I know, I have watched my daughter with her web design business. It took years for her to finally get to where she is today. Keep on keeping on Luneib, something will turn up.

You are right Kywonder, it takes alot of time to start a business, alot of effort involved. I had a ton of tax papers to file with the State and Feds, not easy at all. People think, oh, I'll just start a business, they have no idea how much stuff is involved. I just made a sign to hang in my car window to advertise it, I'm doing all I can to promote it. My bf and I even go door to door dropping off pamphlets and talking to people.

I think the unemployment rate is around 9.5% here, but...that does not include those whose unemployment has run out, so....who knows what the true figure really is.

And to all about to use this as a political bashing...please don't. Concentrate on praying for help for our friends on here that are dealing with rough times...

Thoughts and prayers are with you Lune, that you get some kind of break soon. And my thoughts and prayers are also with all those who have not been able to find work.

When one door closes another one opens - may not be what you want - but be prepared to walk through it and never lose your sense of humor (thank God that's free).
I was down so low one time that I thought about being a male stripper - I kept slipping off the pole and I got tired of the women yelling "For the luv of God, put it back on!" I even needed the Jaws of Life to get the thong off. Ok, so it's not true, but I hope it put a brief smile on your face.

I have have two businesses myself, and they say it takes at least five years to make a profit even in a perfect world. I wouldn't plan on making a profit anytime soon right now, sad to be realistic. My horse training and riding has lightened up some although some still own and want this done, but it's not like it used to be. I used to be able to take in at least $700 a week easy, not anymore. So the crunch is everywhere. Lost

I think we can all relate to what you are feeling, lunib. I've been unemployed since January, and just gave up everything in NV to move to TX for this new job 2 years ago...so the layoff for me was totally unprepared for. Thankfully, I get the max amount allowed, although that is still only about 1/3 of what I was making. I don't have anyone to take care of but me. My bills and expenses are kept to a bare minimum.
Everyone says to get a job that doesn't pay as much...well, that's easy to say when you're working. What they don't consider is that most jobs you can get are $8 to $10 an hour. While that may be fine for kids, or someone who has a spouse that makes good money, it really isn't enough to survive on, pay bills, mortgage/rent, insurance, car payments, etc etc. Plus, it can cause complications in your employment benefits.
Like you, I'm not a quitter. I spend about 4 hours every day checking jobs. But I know what my expenses are, and can't accept anything less that what will pay the bills and expenses.
I wish you the best of success on your business venture. Send me a link when you get it set up. Never know what kind of customer I might be! I can also pass it on to friends.
The biggest thing is not to let the stress get to you, turn off the negative aspects and push forward. Never quit and lay down, giving up all that you've strived for. Network with all your friends, associates and acquaintances. Believe and have trust in youself and your business. It's not easy...I know, I've been there. But you always have to remind youself that the rewards far outweigh the liabilities.

I'm a RN and when I was between jobs I worked as housekeeper at the local Comfort Inn for minimum wage. Maybe you could find a job like that and since it's in the line of business that you are trying to set up, you might get some leads

People who still have their jobs must not realize what is going on out there. The hotels aren't hiring, restaurants aren't either. IF the bigger business's are going under there is a domino effect and the other business's can't surive. I also am in the same boat luneib and your right about the stress it is terrible. Much luck and if I may be so bold? Put your pride away and apply for food stamps. There is NOT ONE program out there if you are single with no children I have found this out the hard way.

I got RIFTed in 95 and had a hard time finding employment. Luckily my job is stable at the moment. I will suggest 3 things to check into: 1) food banks, here alot of churches have them and was a blessing when it was so tight that I didn't know where money to feed the family was going to come from. 2) State sponsored health care. We have a program called ALA Kids that provides basic medical coverage and my kids were on it for awhile. 3) Take anything you can find right now job-wise. I worked for Burger King and a Grovery to stay afloat, applying on my off days where ever I could, finally got a break thru a temporary agency. I applied with 5 of them, would get up every morning and get ready to go to work, then call thru the list of the 5 to see if anyone had anything - even for just the day.
By the way, ones that worked me became 1st calls ;)

My sympathies to anyone out there struggling in the un-employment area right now.

We do have State programs in CT for medical, but they have recently done major cuts. I am registered with several temp agencies, none of which have been finding me work.

Though, I am blessed at this moment my business is doing very good, but, that doesn't mean I don't feel compassion for all those who are suffering through these very tough times.

Especially, since most people didn't bring this upon themselves crooked business men and politicians are responsible for the mess we are in.

I have helped save a few of my friends homes and others to make their ends meet.

I can say for most of my friends, things are actually getting better for them, not great but better.

Now, in states like Michigan my heart really goes out to them, it has really crush that state and it doesn't look good for a comeback there anytime soon.

I pray your business takes off soon for you.

You might try Mechanical Turk.

BTW, you can lose your mortgage if they know you no longer are paying for your home owner's insurance. Check your mortgage papers. When I owned in VA, you could not get nor keep your mortgage if you did not have homeowner's insurance.

I have to agree that the insurance company can not cancel your homeowner's insurance for no reason nor without warning. Keep on them to find out why. It could just have been a mistake on their part........and all this worrying will be for naught. One day at a time........ Our unemployment rate in Minnesota was at 8.2 in May. I don't know what the current rate is, but things are not looking good. I'm lucky to be working.....so far. I have been thinking about getting another part time job doing light housekeeping. The pay is decent, and it seems that many people are looking for somebody to do that. I'm sure all it would take is a 'Wanted......Light housekeeping job' ad in the local newspaper. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with health insurance. Good luck, luneib. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

No, there are no career centers inside our Goodwill stores.
