There are four gate-keepers at the entrance to the Realm of Freedom.
Self control Spirit of Inquiry Contentment Good Company
With a pure heart and a receptive mind, and without the veil of doubt and restlessness of the mind, listen to the exposition of the nature and means of liberation. At this point in my life, I am striving for the contentment part of that gate-keeper step. I have the first two down (and trust me I know I have the first one down with the phoney azzz-kissers I work with and not losing my kewl with them when they start).
We could become quite satisfied with ourselves at different points in our life. Such satisfaction with ourselves is not the same as contentment. Contentment is necessary, self-satisfaction is detrimental. To be content has to include knowing we are in the right place at the right time to facilitate our own growth.
As you learn to leave alone the activity of unconsciously trying to be the person that you think that you should be - the person that this "you" is currently flowing through - and you learn to move as this one that you truly are - this "you" of you; the very heart of existence .
Ms. Betty and I went to the Bluegrass Festival this afternoon at the Benton Fairgrounds.. there is something to contentment in life.. and contentment of the moment .. to learn to fill your heart with what you enjoy. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE music.. and you put together 4 or 5 people who sing in harmony with a fiddle, a bass, a banjo, and a mandolin..
The heart is always the place to go. Go home into your heart, where there is warmth, appreciation, gratitude and contentment. Then you will know what I speak of when I say my heart is so full it feels as though it will burst unless it finds someone to share this contentment and happiness with .. someone to speak things of love.
Love is not a thing. It is not something you do. Love is a way of being, a merging of body, mind and spirit. A state of total acceptance and freedom. Without limits, reservations or qualifications. It is a sense of wonder and oneness with all that exists in a universe that is self-sustaining, and a God who loves us.
Give me an man with the ability to play mandolin and honey chile.. he don't have to have lips.. he don't need no other whatchamajiggies to make me a happy, happy gurl...

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony. -- William Henry Channing (1810 - 1884) Source: My Symphony
and for gramps: A six-year-old boy told his father he wanted to marry the little girl across the street. The father, being modern and well-schooled in handling children, hid his smile behind his hand.
"That's a serious step," he said. "Have you thought it out completely?"
"Yes," his young son answered. "We can spend one week in my room and the next in hers. It's right across the street, so I can run home if I get scared of the dark."
"How about transportation?" the father asked.
"I have my wagon, and we both have our tricycles," the little boy answered.
The boy had an answer to every question the father raised.
Finally, in exasperation, his dad asked, "What about babies? When you're married, you're liable to have babies, you know."
"We've thought about that, too," the little boy replied. "We're not going to have babies. Every time she lays an egg, I'm going to step on it!"
