1in 6 of the population will starve to death. That's an astounding statistic. It's a shame that there is more interest in feeding a military industrial complex than people.

It could come to the United States in a twinkling of an eye. Our food production and distribution system are so dependent on refrigeration and diesel fuel for trucks. Knock out the electrical grid for large enough area and long enough time, and a region's food supply would rot.

Hmmm, seems like one of those good reasons for Birth Control if you ask me...
I also think that the root causes are not being clearly identified and Honestly dealt with...some times Throwing Money at a Problem is Not Enough.
AND Hunger should be Everyone's concern...a few years ago the little neighbor kids from one side of me were coming a couple times a week and asking for food, which Of Course I gave them...the neighbor on the other side of me got real upset with me, "Don't give them food we'll Never get rid of them". You see their parents were into drugs and feeding the kids and dog (bought a bag of dog food too) wasn't high priority...Mad neighbor blamed the kids for the Parents actions
Told Mad neighbor to stick it...I'M not turning away a hungry child for No Body!
Good blog Lep, thought provoking as always...kudos

If the problem of starvation in this world was solved, 1,000's of companies and billions of dollars or profit would be gone. There is no profit in solving the problem. There is profit in acting like you are trying to solve the problem. The "problem" is easy to solve. The "problem" isn't lack of food.
The starving people of this world are kept that way because the global controlling powers want to ensure that there is a grateful 5th world waiting in the wings to exploit for cheap labor. As each "world" comes into the industrial age, wages go up and profits go down. To have ready and willing starving people waiting for a chance to earn 10 cents a day is good for business.

Yikes Borty, couldn't start a business in This country for that small amount...Shame though
Phantom...that IS one of the problems, that People Know this and Allow it to continue...it's time for ALL of US to step up to the Plate, and I'm not talking about complaining about it! We've got to start Calling the Powers that be on all of this PooDoo...That means looking for and joining groups that are geared to Make A Difference...Or taking action Yourself.
As the saying goes "If you're not part of the Solution, you're part of the Problem"...I'm not saying that it's Easy to walk the walk, but if one doesn't Try then you Know what part you are

Rewicket...I don't think you or leprichaun get it...the grand design is laid out so these people starve until it is no longer advantageous to let them starve.
First, we had industry in the north..they had the population and the infrastructure for industry...decades went by...oh wait! you want ANOTHER raise? screw you!
and off they go to build factories in the south. Roads are better now and there are enough people to man the factories and BONUS! We can pay them $3 an hour!
Uh oh...you want what? Screw you!
Off to Mexico we go! We can pay them $2 a hour! Whoopee!!!
Oh....we gotta do what? Now? Why?...Screw you!
Hey, have ya ever heard of China..They got millions and million of people that will work for a cup of tree bark soup! We can make that pretty cheap, can't we?
Premier Who? What? Now wait a minute! We just got here! Pay them with money? Are you nuckin futs?
Hey guys.....look what I found...ya know that country that beat the crap out of us 30 years ago..guess what!!! they want our factories!!!!...$1 an hour...no way! 10 cents a hour!!
When they create a standard of living, then it will be SriLanka and Bangladesh
When they create a standard of living..it will be on to Africa..thats a big place..they can move all over the place and make them compete with each other
What happens to all these places that get abandoned? They go back to starving to death..maybe they will be more grateful next time around!
Resource Economics...how to use the earth resources to your best advantage...PEOPLE are the biggest and most manipulative resource this planet has!!! Don't you bet anything of value that I'm not right...I promise..you'll lose

Thank you Lep...And I understand full well how the world works, I ALSO know that We are NOT helpless little pawns on some Chess board...We are helpless ONLY if we sit around scratching our hind-ends and Bemoaning the way things are. After all there are more of us then them, they Only get away with the things they do because we Let them.
Ever cross a picket line? One Thanksgiving was cooking for a group and worked late, both stores I normally shopped at were on strike...so Even though it was a pain and I was tired I didn't cross the line like sooo many other Americans who most probably sit around scratching their behinds complaining about the way things are...I went to Another store across town.
You vote with your dollars, that's all they understand because We the People have Let them make Money matter the more than anything else...You vote when you stand up with others and say HEY ENOUGH...You vote when you call, email or send a letter to your Representatives saying if you don't do something about this I"M not voting for you next time...AND I'm telling EVERYONE I know that You don't care...funny how they listen to something like that.

1 in 6 will starve to death because 3 in 5 live in poverty. Theres plenty of food for all if we could get it to them before its hijacked. There are some good charities like Feed the Children that get food to those who need it before its hijacked by the profiteers.

I think an interesting statistic to see would be what percentage of those people live under dictatorships, central planning type or socialist governments. How many of those countires actually do (or did) produce enough food to meet their needs before gov't meddling or corruption interfered. The United States and many other democracies are food exporting nations. We are often criticised for using so much energy but much of that goes to producing and transporting food or medicines to countries that can't take care of there own people. It's amazing how little many people need to survive or even prosper but when corrupt governments take that little bit away from them we are the bad guys for letting them suffer.

Obama was on TV today stating just what I mentioned that much of this starvation is due to the fact that if you want to start a business in Africa or places like that, or if you want to do well, people have to pay a bribe for food. So Governments are aware that this is happening. It's sad that politics are in the way of feeding people. It's not that the food and the process for feeding isn't available, it's the Government isn't allowing it or can't work through all the red tape and terrorism to get the people fed. So all the money and donations in the world won't help. Giving to Red Cross, Unicef, Salvation Army, and all those organizations don't do squat. Remember that next time you see people asking for a hand out. Tell your Representative to get their act together at the UN or where ever etc. first before you hand out anymore of your hard earned cash. Lost
