I am really getting tired of foreigners (especially drunken ones) getting on here and bashing our former presidents and getting all their wonderful insights into our country from a bottle of liquor. I wonder why they don't go bash their Queen for awhile because in my opinion she and her "Royal" family represent nothing more than a figurehead anyway and are for all intents and purposes useless parasites that their minions worship simply because they don't have enough sense not to. Oh well, maybe the booze bottle isn't inclined to lean them that direction.
Now on to George Orwell, since his name was mentioned in a couple recent blogs. His book 1984 was publish in I believe 1949 and is referred to as science fiction. Another man Aldous Huxley published a somewhat similiar book titled Brave New World seventeen years earlier in 1932. . Both authors were likely well read and may have gotten their inspiration from Plato's idea of a Utopian society back in the 300's BC. At any rate, for those of you still capable of expressing your own thoughts and have a mind that can reach beyond the propaganda education taught today I would encourage you to read both books and then look at what is happening in America and other countries today. It will scare the hell out of you. Science fiction? More like prophecy in so many ways.
In closing one more thought. Obama, 9 more US troops were killed in Afganistan the other day!! Where is your reasoning that this war is any different than the one in Iraq? You are nothing more than a pitiful joke.

We read 1984 in tenth grade English class, and while it may seem like prophecy, I believe it's more a reflection of Orwell's insight into information he was privy to, information that's available only to people who haven't been conditioned into thinking everything's wonderful and "they would never do that".
Just take a drive down your nearest interstate and look at all the cameras along the highway. They look like streetlights at a cursory glance. Oh...they're for monitoring speeders and accidents? Okay.
Watch the skies. See all those "contrails" stretching as far as the eye can see? Oh...they're ice crystals caused by engine exhaust? Wow.....magic ice crystals that defy physics by not melting, or falling to earth.
Fulfillment of prophecy? Absolutely.

I've read both books...Brave New World twice and I recommend "Island" and "Mortal Coils" -- some good stuff in there.
Obama? He's a man of inaction right now and I agree with you...this war in Afghanistan will be no different than Iraq. It's a lateral move.
Drunken foreigners? I like drunken foreigners. And...they bash the Queen just as much as you probably bash whichever political party you're against. No one is perfect or innocent and only a few here claim to be.
This is a global networking site and yes, people from across the sea...foreigners as you put it...and really, that's a kind of minimalistic view don't you think? To them...we're foreigners...as humans...we're foreigners. We're all residents of Earth. We should attempt to accept that we're all different even though we're all human.
I see Mallards sitting next to Sea Gulls all the time. Two different creatures...they're both still birds.
Here's what I do when someone here irks me...
I stop reading them.
Anyway...you referenced two great books by two excellent authors. I'm glad to see that.

Well I'm a foreigner (yes one of those Brit kind) and I bash the Queen all the time lol... and especially her son Big Ears and his daft relationship heheh...
I feel really sorry for the two lads being born into that family and I hope they'll have the courage some day to do what George Washington and every other sensible American did from 1776 onwards...
LET FREEDOM RING !!!
BTW I thought president Bush handled his little indiscretion with our Queen very well "she was here to celebrate our bicentennial in 1776" lol... I bet she wishes she wasn't hahaha....
Regards from the British Republic of West Yorkshire...

kall me krazy all ya want. the butterfly nets are comin for me, but 1948 was the implementation of commercial tv. it had been around for a long time before that. what was sci fi back 100 years ago, is quite real today. and so it will be in the future, sci fi today, sci reality tomorrow. sounds trite and hackneyed but they can read our minds from space and do. they can insert thoughts. and take them out. zap us. cap us. tap us. whap us. telstar was an interesting satellite in the 50's. comsat was a communications satellite corporation i invested in in 1958. i sold it in 1984. the stock. all kinds of corporations and more have satellites. spy satellites. remember ya always read about a military satellite launch. and the usa is not the only nation here on earth. it would like to be, but it isn't. and there's more to space than just space. some people go ufo crazy. i read books by people as a kid, from pharmacists and medical doctors that claimed to be in telepathic communication with people in other galaxies. all beautifully illustrated and making perfect logical sense. so....its later than you think. much later. this is why there is a rebellion against science. what are the mad scientists going to do next?

To them...we're foreigners Gee, is that the new politically correct term now for foreigners.......people from across the sea? I could care less about politically correct. People that live in their country are foreigners to me, and I would expect that people in other countries are to them foreigners.
Minimalistic? Not hardly. While some lamebrains on here form the stupid opinion that my comment means I hate people from England, I am talking about the few, not the many!

Passed by a wide margin by Dems and Reps alike and signed into law by then president Bush. This one can be laid at the feet of both parties.

Yep, it was rushed through the process riding High on people's Fear.
They didn't even do a Lay Interp which is standard procedure so that representatives can understand what Exactly they are voting for.
