For the last four years I have lived the life of a hermit. I was in debt up to my eyeballs, maybe a little over them actually. About four years ago my single cell brain came alive and I said no more, I don't want to live like this anymore so I started a budget and I actually stuck to it.

Every penny was accounted for and you would be amazed at how much money can be wasted and unaccounted for if you are just waddling through life. I rarely go out to eat and I have been to see one movie in the last four years and a nephew paid for that. Thursday of last week I paid off my last credit card. I have learned my lesson but you know I needed a new monitor and just for a moment I thought go get one on a credit card and pay it off next month. I only thought this for a minute though. I told myself just wait another month. From this day forward it will be debit card or I don't need it and since I have no credit card payments I will actually have money because My Credit Cards Are Gone.

Great Going Jacksonboy !

Now that you have the blood suckers off your back, watch that bank account grow.

I bet that old house of yours is short on storage. The old timers knew that you don't need a lot of stuff to have a rich life, and had more living room than closets.

Spend some of that hard saved cash on a bottle of champagne to celebrate your independance.

Very good, Jackson. I'm currently working on that myself. I do have one credit card left because sometimes you just don't have the money. But it has a very low credit limit. And I try to pay cash for everything I need now--notice I said need, not want! LOL

Cash is the only way to go. However I recently learned that since I have been debt free (excluding house pmt) my credit score has dropped. Keep one card to charge on in small amounts pay it almost off every month. To pay it all off does not help a credit score. Also pay over the phone from a debit card to save a stamp. Yes I am thrifty.

Now Jackson go see a movie and eat popcorn. You deserve it!

the only credit card I have is my debit/credit card through the credit union. And I only use the credit part maybe every other month just to keep my credit in good standing. The credit union pulls the money out of my checking account at the end of each month automatically so I don't even have to write a check to cover it.
The last time I checked my credit score was at 802.... I'd like to keep it that way

Credit card companies at one time made it way too easy for people who couldn't keep their spending in check to get into debt very quickly, not putting all the blame here on the card companies, there is such a thing as personal responsibility.

Good for you Jackson.... and you will find that the items you do have to wait and save for are much more enjoyable only because you won't have the debt hanging over you head....

That's wonderful when you are young you have to really pay attn to what your wants are and what your needs are.........wants are like little xtra's needs is survival mode and to stretch the dollar an many can't control those or they don't get it, because it's a credit card and then there are late charges and at 17% plus.....it adds up more an more.........I am glad that you are debit free.....this will benefit you in the long run especially these day

You will go far.....and I applaud you for this.......exellent job I see so many people who rely on there credit card and don't manage there money well and they wonder how they ever got there....

I am happy for you

Good for you...and if you wait long enough, you will find a bargain with the monitor.
