You've seen them, advertisments for the latest gadget, things for the kitchen, car, house, upside down tomato plant holders.. wtf? herb boxes with lamps over the top making things grow at lightening speed.. remote control light switches.. soda can covers.. bread makers, ice cream makers.. the list is endless.
Yet so many of the gadgets get bought, used once or twice, then abandoned.. sent to the darkest corners of the storage closets.
But it isnt just TV gadgets, have you ever looked on Craigslist to see how many people are selling their fitness equipment that say,,'Rarely used'.??
My Father is the worst for buying gadgets then abandoning them.. a really good idea at the time.. all excited.. he buys it.. uses it once or twice,, then off to the shed it goes to join many other rarely used objects!! One that didnt make the shed however, was a dvd RECORDER not player. He payed a whole load of money for it, glanced through the instruction manual, then gave me the book and said,, "Can you program it for me?"
Well in all fairness to dad, the instructions were like for someone who knew these type of equipments, the jargon was very technical. Why cant they print an idiots manual too? Im not saying my Dad is an idiot by the way, far from it, but surely they can make these things simpler to understand!!
So it sits by the TV, hes learnt how to record from the TV and play back and thats about it.. $1,000 worth of equipment 'rarely used'.
In my getting to be a new me plan, and as walking I've decided is out of the question in temperatures of over 105 here lately,.. I've been looking online for a tread mill.
I saw a great one yesterday, it has an incline option, pulse monitor, speeds for beginners to pro,, (yeah I'll be the beginner)
It said...
Rarely used, cost $700 will sell for $200.
Its a pro form, which I believe is a good make too. So we're off to see it tonight when Gregg gets home.
Obviously someone in the household had the idea to get fit, bought it, then changed their mind like many others on there with 'rarely used' on the ad.
Well I am determined that I am going to use my new tread mill.. I am going to plug in my mp3 player.. and off I go!!
Tread mill hello... pounds.. goodbye!
No rarely used gadgets in THIS house!!

Why cant they print an idiots manual too? Yeah...they must think everyone is an electrical engineer and a whiz with this stuff. Just get the 12 year old kid down the street to program it.
temperatures of over 105 The last time it was that hot here I had to sit on 100 pound block of ice!

I get the best deals from the good will that way.
Just a few days ago I found an emergency button fastener, complete will all the little goodies to put the buttons back on, it has a little compartment that holds all the doo hickies, slipped in a needle and thread, couple of safety pins and my back pack now has a complete sewing kit in it. 50 cents.
For that matter I got my back pack at good will for ten bucks.
Couple of camp stoves, lanterns.... and we do have such a good time running up to the mountain. I think the only thing I did not get at good will was the tent.

I like the remote controls for your car audio system cuz it's very difficult to reach all the way to the radio from the seat.
And as I posted elsewhere...electric toothbrushes? People are actually so lazy that they need help brushing their teeth?
Remote control fans and lights?
Gadgets are an abomination to physical fitness and plain common sense.

Hey...I Love my Bread Maker
And... I have one of those hanging tomato basket thingys, it works great and no mud or bugs on my tomato plant...I use to have a bucket with a hole cut in the bottom hanging on the fence, this is better by far!
Hmmm, I''ll have to look in the freecycle.org to see if I can find a tread mill too
Great Blog! Kudos
