When I was in school many years ago, I was very shy, a wallflower, and not very popular.

I was NOT on the cheerleading squad or on the "royal court." I was NOT one that was asked out on dates, or passed notes from someone that had a crush on me. I was often ridiculed, for a variety of reasons, and SO was my social life. I was also not an A or even B student. NOT because I couldn't be, but because I would not and often could not apply myself and my mind to my work because of family issues.

Anyway, I often felt out of place (as many do), and couldn't wait for graduation so I could put that part of my life behind me.

Recently, I joined one of those websites to "reconnect" with my classmates. A part of me wondered why because for the most part they were not good memories from that time. Well, I recieved an email a few days ago, from a man that was a senior when I was a sophmore, and in it he introduced himself. He also told me that not only did he remember me, but other "boys" (his friends) did and do too!

Well, needless to say, THIS just blew me away!!!!!!! ME??? REALLY???? ME???

He and I since then have been emailing and chatting, and I am still amazed by it all. I don't know the path that we will tread, but I DO know that he is SO funny, and I DO enjoy talking to him!!

"Que sera, sera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Not everything is always how we see them, for sure!!!

Fully understand what you have said, a little like me when I was at school, it is funny how we have set ideas how people see us. Like you I went onto a site to try and find friends from school and college. I had a email from a dear friend of mine who I lost contact with when I was around 12 years old.It was so good to hear from her and about her life.

So happy for you, do keep us up dated will be looking for your news!!!

Thank you for sharing. About four months ago I sent a wink to a lady on this site. Turns out that she went to school with me forty four years ago and lives four states away. Yes, we have communication now and will see each other at our class reunion.

Bottom line here, it's a small world depending on the size of rock you put yourself under.

Like you, I went through school the same way. I was always quiet, reserved, standoffish...never being in the mix of things. I was in fact ridiculed because of it. But also, like you, I had many family issues that prohibited me from a social life. It wasn't until I enlisted in the service during the Viet Nam era that I learned confidence and how to stand up for my rights. And it hasn't been until entering into my "Golden Years" that I have become a very outspoken advocate. I calk it up to being an ornery and cantankerous ole fart...but the fact is, we train our minds to our thoughts and actions. I tell people not to ask me a question if they don't want an honest opinion. If the sandwich tastes sour, I'm not gonna tell you it's sweet just because you want someone to agree with you.
Many times, and especially when in school, we get trapped in a bubble of solitude because we are not a part of the "in crowd". Because of that, we become blind to the world as a whole, and become even more introverted.
I'm glad that you took the step to sign up for the service that you did, and even happier that you found those that did notice you.
Best of luck to you in the future, whatever it holds for you.

Syb, it kind of sounds like the Ugly Duckling story. I went through the same type thing in school. I never did have a date in high school. I was deathly afraid of the girls. the summer before I started college, I met a cute little blonde. That didn't work out, but it got me out of my shell.
From what I can see by your pictures, you have become a very attractive lady. I am happy for you. You will have fun at your reunion . I have been to all of mine except the 10th. However at every one of them, we have fewer and fewer of us during the years.
I am wishing you great success in your endevor. Good luck!!

I was like you in high school, very shy. I like you did not notice boys looking at me either until the after graduation dance when a guy from my class ran up to me, got up on his toes, well...he was much shorter than me , and kissed me on my cheek then ran away lol. Yeah, things are not as they appear to be that is for sure.

I'm so happy for you, it must feel good to feel that you were noticed in high school and now to have a nice guy to correspond with who makes you laugh, that's the icing on the cake.
