"Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye." ~ H. Jackson Brown "Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody's heart." ~ Anthony D'Angelo "Song brings of itself a cheerfulness that wakes the heart of joy." ~ Euripides Three quotes .. part of my memories of last evening.
Sometimes, in the moments when I first open my eyes, I reflect on the day prior to either decide to file it in my memory banks or disregard it because of its potential to steal some of the joy that the other memories have placed in my bank.
Yesterday, I had the fine fortune of attending the Benton Rodeo. I took Miss B. (my neighbor) with me, and even let the gentleman that I was meeting for a first meet knew that she would probably tag along. He was fine with that.. ONE for the gipper on that in his favor.... yeee haww!!!.
I realize that I am a "down home" type country gal. My needs in life are truly simple. I need only a roof over my head.. unfancy is way fine with me as I don't want to spend hours upon hours making sure it maintains the shine and polish of the elite. I need only a car with four wheels and an engine that has a heart as big as the vehicle is.. (My Abbey for instance.. she may be 8 going on 9 years of age [and for a vehicle that is saying a lot] and have over 125,000 miles on her, but I gotta tell you that ole gal has spunk and heart. I need clothing (mama didn't raise me to toss my wares out to the world.. they be jest for my one and only) and shoes, cuz this ole gal doesn't have the leather like feet as I did when I was a young hippie chick walking everywhere barefoot. And I need food.. perhaps I should make that one .. I WANT / DESIRE / ADORE food. The ambrosia like feeling that takes over when I put some really good chocolate between my lips and slowly inhale it into my mouth.. well, hot damn there is only a few things that can top that and I did get enough gal genes in me to not divulge those (and I say that because I am a countrified tomboy).
I had the pleasure of listening to a kick azz band... I put the link to their site on one of my previous blogs, frick, they had this ole gal up and dancing within 5 minutes and they tain't all that bad to look at (reference the quote on music). We saw some of the damn finest athletes riding the broncs and the bulls .. watched the rodeo clown and listened to his jokes until tears were falling from our eyes. Ate the damn finest home cooked food at reasonable prices. Hell, these folk don't wanna get rich and live a different life.. what it costs them, plus something added for the preparation is all they charge. The rodeo benefits a lot of local places.. ambulance, fire, police departments.. and there is always an chance at taking home a filly (a local horse farm donates one each year and the profits go to special ed children). Everyone you see doesn't greet you with suspicion and wariness... round c'here people are still polite to others and smile.. hence the quote on smiling.
I even got flowers and candy from the gentleman caller. Now, I am so not gonna jinx this.. we started out friends.. that is still where we are and we are taking it one day at a time.. no agendas, no demands -- just a lot of talk, laughter and enjoyment. He is way citified.. and I am a countrified ole gal, but he told me at the end of the evening the sweetest thang anyone has in a month of Sundays.. he told me he enjoys my company because I am teaching him what it feels like to really live, not just exist. Shucks, tain't me.. it is the awesome power of the Lord and the fine people here.
We left after the kick aazzz fireworks and headed to the Deer Oak to get Miss B. a slider.. we kicked back a few brews and the band headed there also... so we got an encore like no other.. in amongst the cowboys that participated at the rodeo, and the people there. We did some mighty fine dancing and two stepping and then left whilst the stars were twinklin above us and caught a scent of all the hay and grass that had been cut during the day.. now, I ask you... can you top this???
And the last quote of the beginning of this blog sorta sums up the entire feeling you get around this corner...
And for gramps: AFTERNOON SEX
The only way to pull off a Sunday afternoon 'quickie' with their 8-year old son in the apartment was to send him out on the balcony with a Popsicle and tell him to report on all the neighborhood activities. He began his commentary as his parents put their plan into operation: - 'There's a car being towed from the parking lot,' he shouted. - 'Jason is on his skate board!'
After a few moments he announced, 'The Coopers are having sex!!'
Startled, his mother and dad shot up in bed! Dad cautiously called out, 'how do you know they are having sex?' 'Jimmy Cooper is standing on his balcony with a Popsicle
