The Family Reunion is over for another year.
My daughter made it up at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning with her boyfriend, the three kids plus one friend of my granddaughter's. Oh, and I mustn't forget their dog, Katie. The kids were all pretty alert, because they had slept a good portion of the way here. Needless to say, we got very little sleep before having to get ready for the family reunion. My two youngest cats will not show their faces when company is here. They waited until all was quiet before coming up from the basement to eat and then racing down the hallway into my bedroom. When the first person 'stirs' in the morning.......they're gone again.
The kids all got up and ate cereal. We adults ate nothing, knowing we'd be eating at approximately noon at the reunion. It was only 46 degrees when I got up, but my daughter and the two girls insisted on wearing shorts. The girls, at least, told me they were going to bring a pair of long pants along ..... just in case. They all had hoodies. My daughter said that they had watched The Weather Channel before leaving, and they insisted they heard that it was supposed to be an absolutely gorgeous day. The temperature was supposed to reach a perfect 72 degrees. Hahaha!
I was the first one to leave the house Saturday morning. I got the car all packed up and left all the rest of them here to take their showers and get ready. I had to go and get my sister ready and take her to the reunion. I dressed my sister in long pants, a heavy long sleeved sweater, and decided against the jean jacket I had planned on putting on her and opted for her winter coat instead. Once I got her there, she was also wrapped with blankets. She was still cold. I don't think it reached much over 53, and with the wind blowing the way it was, and the fact that the sun was in hiding during the entire reunion, it did not feel like it got out of the low 40's. We're happy, though, that it did not rain or ......... snow? It didn't take long for the girls to put their pants on over their shorts. My daughter? She started out saying it was all good. My son and her boyfriend ended up taking a little road trip into town.....and came back with a new pair of pull on pants for my daughter to wear. She was happy. July 18th and we were all wearing coats, and one niece even had a pair of mittens on. She would not give me one to wear. What a brat!
The reunions used to go until about 8 p.m., but they have been ending earlier and earlier. This one was by far the earliest for us to break up. I think I left at around 5 p.m. I had to take my sister back home and get her ready for bed. My daughter and her clan headed in another direction to take the kids somewhere to spend the night with the promise that they would be back out to my house between 8 and 9 a.m. Somehow, I managed to beat the rest of them home. So I unpacked the car.......and proceeded to heat up some barbecued beef that I had pulled out of the roaster before taking it to the reunion, knowing we would all have to eat again sometime that night. I had also made extra of the Asian Cole Slaw, so all was good. I started in cleaning up the morning mess, and had it about finished when my daughter and her boyfriend came home. Then two nieces arrived.......and finally my son. We had a nice, quieter visit. They all left around 11 p.m........and finally my daughter and I made it to bed around 12:30 a.m. or so.
I was in the midst of making sausages, hashbrowns, eggs and toast for the three of us when the kids started shuffling back in. I was happy to hear that they had eaten before coming back here.
They left at 10 a.m. sharp this morning. Five minutes later, my telephone rang. I was waiting for that, because it always rings just after they leave. It was my daughter calling me to tell me that she loves me. I love you, too, Baby Girl!
The last of my four cats just showed her face about half an hour ago. All the cats are happy. They have their home back again. It's about time for me to wash the mountain of towels and to get back to my regularly scheduled housekeeping chores, but I think I'll run out to the kitchen to have one more cup of coffee first.
It sure is peaceful. I hear the birds outside singing to me. Such a lovely sound!. Just for chits and giggles, I looked at the thermometer outside. It's a perfect 72 degrees with a slight summer breeze. Go figure, huh?.........
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......................All is good.
I hope you're all having a glorious Sunday!
