This story needs to be told! it's not only True...but its about one lady who I'm so proud to call friend! Mi Amiga, Mi Hermana...Por Vida.. 
First of all let me say, I dont feel qualified to write her story and give it the proper recognition it deserves! So please understand it goes far deeper then my words alone can say! But her story has touched my heart so deeply, and took me through so many emotions, even now its hard to fight back the tears of both Joy and Rage!
Its starts out in poverty, a young mother just trying to survive, and live to see another day! Pregnat in her teens shes trying to raise her two children, no education, no money, no real hope! She later married a man who she gave her heart and soul to, All she ever wanted out of life was to be happy and loved, and for that she would dedicate her life, her love and every ounce of energy to make her house a home 
This man (if you can call him that) humiliated her! belittled her! beat her! and made her feel as though she was nothing! She waited on him hand and foot.......her reward was countless beatings with his hands and feet! she was hospitalized on two occassions, in Critical Condition, nearly losing her life! When she told me her story, I was unable to fight back the tears, she told me it was the first time in her life, she felt comfortable talking about, but knew she needed to tell someone. I was that someone, as my heart wept.I had to keep muting my phone so she wouldn't hear me cry, I was trying to be strong for her, but was losing the fight.
After each Beating he told her he was Sorry and Loved Her.....she took him back each time thinking things would be different? She even took the blame for his actions! and felt if only she was a better wife this wouldn't happen.......He cheated on her over and over, and told her it was her fault, because she wasn't a real woman. 
When she would break down and cry  he would tell her to shut up.....If she could'nt control her emotional pain, He would beat her until she was to weak to even cry, he never made love to her, he just had his way and took what he wanted and would laugh at her..when he was done! Belittle her and tell her she was Nothing!
He finally was arrested and is now doing time, for other crimes he commited.. 
She was afraid of what would now become of her life! No money, No Job, No Education, No Car, No Hope, And living in the Varrio.  She just didn't want to live anymore! All of her little girl Dreams had been shattered, She was an emotional wreck, a battered beaten scared little girl in a womans body.....No Self Confidence, No Pride, No will to carry on with a life, that was filled with pain and suffering...........
In that moment of of pain and doubt.....the contimplation of ending her Life! she realized her work was not done, she had responsibilties to her children........
So she put her own pain aside, and begain the process of working low paying jobs to help make the ends meet and put herself through school, with the aid of social services, still maintaining her roll as Mami.......and struggling with keeping her grades up!
This "Spanish Rose" just graduated college last thursday!
At the top of her class.......with honors and made the Deans list.......I am so proud of her!  She called me to share her excietment and fears of her new life thats unfolding rapidly before her eyes.......A corporation in Florida offered her a high powered position, and sent her plane tickets with all expenses paid.... they are rolling out the red carpet,This Lady in now in high demand......in the Medical Field 
She called me early this past friday Morning before leaving to the airport, Just to thank me for being a friend! and taking her calls at 3:00 in the morning when she had nightmares of days gone by......She never knew what it felt like to go out to a nice restaurant for dinner, have a man treat her like a Lady, never been out of state or on a plane.
Well her whole Life has been rearranged......."The Dawning of a new Day" It was Despiration! Inspiration! Perspiration! and Dedication.......That has enabled her to Turn Her Scars Into Stars" You are my Hero! A true "Spanish Rose" who rose from Proverty to Prosperity!

We need friends like that...it really does help...just to go a little futher in the day...every moment someone cares...and lets us know....gives us that much more to live for....sometimes even though others think we are ok...we are not...some of us can hide it...until there is nothing to hide anymore...cause we are....gone....

Sometimes we don't realize what our friendship means to another person,
and like you said, what they maybe going through or have went through, far
to often we take for granite that someone is just fine. We had been friends for awhile and one night we were talking about relationships, that's when she told me her story. It broke my heart.

I decided to share this story because I'm certain their are some
here that have experienced something simular to a situation like this.Often
times people who have no personal experience with this situation, don't really understand the one going through it, sadly often times will say it's her fault for staying in it. or some how she caused it. Sometimes all they need is a good friend who is willing to reach out..

So you know first hand of a story like this, that happen to someone you love,
It had to break your heart and enrage you at the same time, that any man could
do something like this to a woman
She is a complete different woman today, her self confidence is strong, and things in her life are going very well, so yes I too am very proud of her, she once came to visit me, and stayed a few days at my house, She use to promise me that one day she would cook me some good old home made Mexican food, she kept her promise, the first night I was awoken by a noise, it was a scratching sound on a wall, coming from my bedroom where she was sleeping, I knocked at the door to see if she was okay, no response, just the noise, she was sleep walking and was scratching at the wall as though she was trying to get out or away. I carefully awoke her and tried to comfort her, she told me she was having another one of those nightmares. There can be some really harsh lasting effects from this kind of trama.
She begain to cry, and say how embarrassed she was, but these nightmares have been haunting her for some time now, sleep walking in her mind was her way of trying to escape over and over, it just broke my heart
