As the visit of misschoos (with a small “m” because that’s the way she likes it) was coming to a close, we had the opportunity and a few extra hours to spend together the day her flight was to leave. My old hometown of Loveland Colorado was on the way to Denver International Airport, and I was happy to be able to provide what I thought might be a most excellent side trip as a closing adventure to a fun and happy visit. One of the great outdoor sculpture parks is located there, and I wanted her to see it before she left America. After all, there ain’t a whole lotta culture here in Wyoming….

The park is an amazing place even if you are not into sculpture, being full of winding walkways, all sorts of water fowl, and small wildlife such as squirrels, baby ducklings, and the like. Even signs of where deer had spent a comfortable evening in the sanctuary.

I remember when I lived in Loveland and worked at the various bronze foundries and when this park was conceived. A small dream is now a large and impressive reality. And, while kinda aimlessly wandering around the park with misschoos, we ran into an old friend of mine from years ago. After proper introductions and warm hugs all around, he and I sat down to chat.

He hadn’t changed as much as me. Being a very statuesque sort of fellow, he was a rather imposing sight. He was still sitting more or less in the same place I had seen him the last time I was at the park. I think he likes his little area because there are many people who stop by and enjoy having a chat with him.

I was happy to see him, and we were soon engaged in serious discussions of monumental implications, just like no time had passed at all.

We covered many subjects that day, in pretty short order too, as I didn’t want to keep misschoos waiting too long. But it had been many years since our last conversations, and misschoos was quite kind, understanding, and very patient. She was even able to take a photo or two while we rambled on and on.

He and I talked of our dreams we had had back in the day. He asked me if I still had dreams.

“Of course I do” I said. “My dreams are answers to questions I haven’t figured out how to ask yet.”

“What do you dream about?” he asked.
“Love” was my quick reply. “ What do you dream about?” I asked him.
“Oh…I dream about bananas and fresh fruit mostly….animal type dreams I guess.”

We talked for quite a while, about love, the human experience, the origins of man…the big bang…you know…stuff like that.

My friend was very stubborn, just as he had been all those many years ago, but I kept trying to reassure him that everything was ok. He was very sure things had changed and that the changes were not good. But he was wrong, and in the end, I was able to at least let him know that I was always as close as a phone call away should he ever want to chat about the state of the universe and what ways he and I could change it. We did agree that we could and would, just as soon as we could get a round tuit.

Finally as our time grew short, we said our goodbyes and assured each other it would not be so long next time between visits.

I had hoped that walk in the park that day would be a fine memory for both me and misschoos. I know it will be exactly that for me. I shall never forget it. Nor will I ever forget her visit. I was very honored to be a representative of my country for her.

And I aim to visit my old friend in the park again soon.
He has wisdom greater than my own, and I think maybe he can help me with some of the complicated problems I have been dealing with recently.

Wonderful share, Tunes.

He has wisdom greater than my own, and I think maybe he can help me with some of the complicated problems I have been dealing with recently.

I highly doubt that his wisdom would be greater than yours, Tunes, but he probably can help you with some or all of the complicated problems you've been dealing with. It is somehow easier for a person to see things more clearly when they are looking at a situation from the outside in......an entirely new perspective.
