Several years ago, when my children were still quite young, I, through having to cope with a huge amount of stress through their difficulties and lack of help from the powers that be....began to suffer so greatly that my doctor referred me to a councilor.
We talked for an hour once a week, going through all sorts of things, my past, my life, my problems and the people in my life.
She told me that many people spiral downward when they have too many problems at once to cope with, trying to juggle busy lives, trying to solve too many problems at once.
She taught me a neat trick which I still use today.
Imagine boxes, they can be any size or shape you like, imagine them all sat in a row.
Now imagine them with labels.
Mum, dad, kids, bills.. etc etc...
Now imagine a list, a list of the problems written on some paper and put in the boxes.
Then, when you have a few moments alone in the day, sit quietly, laying down is better, and imagine opening just ONE of those boxes.
See in your mind what's inside, read in your mind the list of things that are the problems with that person or thing.
Because mentally you have not opened any other boxes, the problems on the list will seem less worrying and seemingly easier to solve.
Solutions seem to come clearer, as we look at the list, a solitary list, not jumbled up with others.
Write down the thoughts that come to you as solutions, and keep them safe, and of course.. act on it.
In your mind, cross out the problem you have solved or wish to act on and put the imaginary list back in the box.
We can then open another to deal with, or deal with another later at our convenience.
Putting people and problems in boxes really works, but when opening the boxes, one must me relaxed and calm and without the possibility of interruption, which for some I know can be difficult. But being as relaxed as one can when opening the boxes, really helps to find the solutions even faster.
When we see a problem isolated, and without the confusion of other difficulties,.. it just seems all that much easier to find a solution, and putting them in boxes away from each other.. albeit in the mind.. really helps... and works.

I wrote a blog once, about making 'to do lists' on bars of chocolate.
I suppose you could apply it to this, then all you have to do is eat the chocolate.
