Your best friend is always with you... but you cant see them.
Your best friend is always there to look after you.. but you cant hear them.
Your best friend is with us to clear up after a night out.. but we never see them do it.
Your best friend is often abused and neglected.. because we forget they are there.
Your best friend if treated right, will be with you.. helping you.. all of your life.. and you probably dont even realise it.
Your best friend is your liver.
The liver is the only organ in the body that can regenerate itself, it takes in the alcohol and toxins and chemicals in the food we eat and filters it.. so we can intake what is good for us..
But sometimes it has to work too hard and it begins to falter.
Some people suffer from 'fatty livers' where fat gathers around the liver, making it harder for it to function.
Some peoples diet is so bad with junk food and no fruit and vegetables that it doesnt have the nutrients it needs to work for us properly..
When we have a check up at the doctors.. the doctor will often push his hands in to the side of our upper stomachs.. this is pushing on the liver. He can tell if the liver is swollen.. and if it is painful to prod.. its usually because the liver is struggling with the toxins we put in to our bodies or has an infection.
Our livers do an awesome job for us.. an unseen best friend that keeps going and alive...
yet so many people abuse it every day without thinking.
An unhealthy liver will make us tired and fatigued.. it needs nutrients.. good food.. and when it is given the right diet it rewards us with energy and vitality.
Heres some foods that your liver will love you for.
Apples.. Beets (Beetroot) ...broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, garlic.
Green leafy vegetables.. artichokes are an excellent food for your liver too.
A cup of hot water in the morning with freshly squeezed lemon juice.. cleanses the liver and helps the detoxification process .
Its amazing how much better we feel when we look after our livers...
Look after your liver and your liver will look after you...
After all... it is your best friend.

LOL Well......... im suprised my liver isnt glowing. Or at one point in time glowed. I used to drink a half gallon of rum and about a liter and a half of coke every 2 days. After the first drink, the coke was for color. I was to the point at one time that I was shooting rum into my veins so I could work and not have the shakes and no one would know. Though the doctor found out when I was brought in to the ER for a nervous breakdown. He told me I could lose my hand if I kept up the behavior. They found my "kit" on me and started asking questions, but didnt find track marks on my arms. Im suprised I even have a liver still. Using the terminology of "friend" you used in your blog, I think my best friend hates me.

You are so right...my brother Joe died in 2004 waiting on a liver transplant he had hep-c caused by drinking and drug use...he did drugs when he was young and at the time thought it wouldn't kill him when he found out it was after his life changed and he had a new start in life he left behind a daughter ( Kim ) from his first marriage her 3 children and a 9 year old son (Joey )from his second start in life . . ..my other brother Frank has hep-c too and is sicker everyday..both shared needles when they were young and it was the thing to do...and now Frank is left wonder when his time will be up...so things we do to ourselves catch up with us one way or another...

I traveled for several years in South America, where hepatitis is common. I got into the habit of pushing up, under my ribs every morning to check for liver tenderness, a sign of liver problems. Every time I saw a mirror, I'd check for yellow skin, or yellowing in the whites of the eyes.
I was lucky, and never had a problem. A good friend waited too long to see a doctor, and all he could do is tell her to write her will. She was dead within two days.
Everyone should learn how to be his own diagnostician, and know first treatment for common problems. It can save your life.
