Former President Clinton has just returned from North Korea with the two convicted illegal aliens that also happened to be American journalists and employees of former Vice-President Al Gore's news service. All Secretary of State Clinton had to do was apologize to the North Korean government, on behalf of the United States, for the actions of these two people while hubby Bill posed for pictures with Kim Jong Il. This pretty much ensures that anytime Kim or the North Koreans need an ego boost they can arrest an American and expect an apology from the United States.
So, when can we expect the President or former President of Mexico to apologize to us for his illegal aliens?
Let's also not forget the three American "tourists" that accidentally crossed the border from Iraq into Iran and were also picked up for being illegal aliens. First of all though I'd like to know, who vacations in Iraq? No doubt these people probably consider themselves 'citizens of the world' more than American citizens but now that they are in trouble who gets to bail them out? Maybe former President Bush can go over there and apologize for their poor map reading skills. I guess that wasn't a high priority of the no child left behind act.
Apparently these dictatorships don't understand the concept of free will. They think these persons acting on their own are somehow connected to or deliberately sent there by the U.S. gov't. Apparently our government doesn't understand the concept of free will either since they take these very public actions that humiliate the Nation on the behalf of people who get themselves into trouble because of their arrogance, ignorance or naivete.
Perhaps then a better action at this time would be a blanket apology to the world from current President Obama for all the stupid actions that American journalists, students, activists, businessmen, tourists and movie stars might commit during his administration.
As young (and dumb) a country as we still are, the subtle nuances that these events suggest to the people of some very ancient cultures is not impressive. As poor as some of them may be they have pride and won't let the stupidity of some of their fellows take that away. They also understand how the appearance of strength or lack thereof can lead to even more serious consequences. We look ahead to the next four years, they look ahead to the next hundred.

That was a really good blog. My thoughts one the two journalists were to leave them there. Can anyone HONESTLY tell me they didnt know what they were doing? Its not like tensions between North and South Korea is something new. After being caught for doing something they knew was illegal, instead of owning up to it, they played the victim. That would be like me being shot for going up to the berlin wall in the 80's and then whinning about being shot for going near it. DUH The ones in Iran, well, their stupidity.
Apparently these dictatorships don't understand the concept of free will. I think the problem is these dictators do understand free will better than we ever will. They deal with it on a daily basis and crush it every time it pops its head up.

I'm glad someone took the time to address this situation.
I'm not the type of person who has no compassion but how does one have compassion for people who are too ignorant to obey the laws of survival and coomon sense? It's kind of like feeling sorry for someone who attempts to jump 30 cars on a motorcycle and misses. I figure he took the risk and understood the consequences of his actions.
These people went to North Korea to get a scoop and they knew what they were doing was illegal. Now that the US has compromised themselves, they'll be able to come back, go on talk shows, write a book and in general become celebrities for in my opinion, being a couple dumbasses.
I think rather than a blanket apology to the rest of the world, a blanket statement to all our own citizens should be in order. "If you're stupid enough to sneak into or visit a country we are hostile with illegally, you're on your own."

Were those "journalists" trying to get truth out to the world, or buzzards trying to make a big buck by going into a closed area? Judging from the slant most of them give their news, I'd vote buzzards. Didn't they notice no other reporters hanging around? Buzzards.
If they take big risks for big bucks, let their banker or employer bail them out of jail, NOT the US government. It is possible though, that their employer was the USA, hence the big effort.
Yes that area is full of "tourists" (read spies) and security contractors (read mercenaries), Sadly, some of them are about as adept as the old spy verses spy characters in the Mad comic book cartoons.
The North Koreans grab a pair of stupid Americans, and our government makes an apology. One thing for sure, the Korean team gave ours a whooping, like a college professor outsmarting a first grader. I thought the new guy was supposed to be giving us a change from Bush's stupidity. They look alike as peas in a pod to me!
