The "Queen" of Humanity is now with God in Heaven !
IMHO... Mrs.Shriver was a "living" Saint and certainly DID more for people around the world with disabilities then anyone who has ever lived !
Please take the time to listen to her daughter Maria eulogize her mother at the funeral this morning in Hyannis,Massachusetts.
I have provided the link below for anyone who would like to watch the video and to listen to Maria talk about her Mother.
God Speed Mrs.Shriver and Rest in Peace and Thank You for All that you have done to make this planet a better place now and into the future !

A little more than a generation ago, the mentally retarded were the great unseen. Children with Downs' Syndrome and other forms of retardation were sent to institutions. There was little training or schooling. No one thought the retarded were capable of learning, working or living independently.
The Kennedy family changed that. Eunice's sister, Rose, was retarded, but lived much of her life with her family. That a wealthy family would choose to have a retarded child live at home, go to church, be schooled, etc bucked convention. It started a trend that is now standard.

That that I taking anything away from what Eunice Kennedy Shriver did, but Rosemary Kennedy and did live in a Institution most of her life. After Papa Joe had an unsuccessful Lobotomy performed on her--without the families knowledge to boot!. The real shame was that Rosemary was only mildly retarded before the Lobotomy. But as a poster mentioned she was treated well and kept at home prior to the Lobotomy and went to dances, etc.
It was a devastating blow--how could having half you brain removed not be? and she(Rosemary) was never the same after that. It is nice to know from that horrible event Eunice created the Special Olympics to remind people that there was no shame in having someone retarded in the family.
She did great work--one of the few Kennedy's that did! What Mrs. Shriver did will live on and it will make others think and for that we should be grateful.
Long Live Eunice Kennedy Shirver!
Rest in Peace!
