Tonight was one of those nights when you realize how fragile life really is. My uncle Bob & aunt Carla were visiting from Kansas City, KS & wanted to take my mom, dad, my aunt Bev, & I out for fish. We chose to go to a place that is usually packed, but the food is worth the wait. Outside @ that time, it was 85 degrees, dew point 72, & heat index 91. Inside of the restaurant either the A/C wasn't working, or there was just so much body heat & opening & closing of the door that it couldn't keep up. About an hour into our wait, it was announced our table was ready, & all of a sudden my dad said he didn't feel good & was going to step outside. When he did, his legs got rubbery, & he collapsed on the parking lot. Thankfully he felt it coming on, so he landed gently. He began to gag & vomit, & was very weakened. The ambulance was called & he was taken to the ER. He underwent cardio tests, & was put on an IV to help hydrate him. The results showed that the heat caused his heart to race (he's had minor problems with a racing heart (tachycardia) for over 25 years) & that's why he collapsed. His potassium levels were down a bit too. After 3 hrs. in the ER he was released, & walked out on his own energy, laughing & joking about his incident a bit even. The restaurant owner was so nice during the whole thing. She gaves us all free take out orders, was there to put cold compresses on my dad's face, & stayed with him & my mom until the ambulance got there. We will DEFINITELY go there again, except on a much cooler & less crowded day next time. Have a great weekend everyone, & keep hydrated!! *HUGS & FOOTRUBS* ladies.. *HANDSHAKES* guys..

Glad to hear it wasn't anything more serious, WSOR. Might be thinking about getting your dad one of those little things you wear around your neck to keep you cooler! And remind him to stay hydrated! (Gatorade is good!)

Ok my friend, first...hugs back. Second, I am so glad that not only is your dad alright but that his problem has seemed to be figured out, I DO suggest a hat for him. When the scalp gets too hot, it is hard on the whole body.

Oh my gosh, your poor Dad, that would have me shaken up had it been one of my family members. Glad that he is OK.
I know, we all have to make an effort to stay hydrated in this weather.
