Yesterday at 4:50 PM I got a strange call, an anonymous voice (no ID ever given) warned me how slick, moneyed, organised people were trying to block the Health Care Bill, and how the bill was so necessary for America's people, particularly poor people.
The voice then told me that if I pressed 1 on my phone, it would automatically hook me up with my Congressman's office, free of charge, where I could register my support for the President's bill.
The voice stopped, I hit 1, with the intention of saying something "the voice" would probabbly not have liked. Nothing happened.
What is an automated phone dialer and professionally made message, music and all, if not slick? What is a system that can give me a free call at the press of one digit if not organised? What is the system that communicates directly with the electorate automatically, if not backed by big money? What is a political solicitation that gives no ID, if not illegal?
I don't know the source of the call. It is sad when our country's policy is pushed by anonymous, untraceable machines. In light of their untraceable addresses, that lead to an empty building in New Orleans, the word "Acorn" was the first that came to mind.
Old Machiavelli would be proud of that phone call. Was it from the left, a feignt from the right pretending to be from the left, or God knows how many games within games within games, to convince me to buy a pig in a poke, to support something I can know nothing of, except by rumor?
One thing I know for sure. Something rotten is going on, something very, very rotten, with big bucks behind it ! !

I wish i could shed some light for you but i honestly don't have a clue why you would get a call like that. Of course i'll let you know if i hear anything about it.
But with most agendas these days, certain people want to make sure they cram it down your throat. They have agendas and they want us all to go along with them.
I like to call them "Agenda Thumpers" taken from the term Bible thumper that we have all heard 10 billion times.
We're being bombarded by every means necessary.
Change you will be forced into.

Exactly. The "astroturfers" are doing everything they can to derail the honest and open discussion of the health reform plans. Instead, they're inciting mobs to descend on these "town hall meetings," and preventing the majority of attendees from learning the information about what's REALLY included in the bills up for approval.
I'm quite surprised. Normally you're not nearly this forthcoming about the flaws in your fellow ideologues...

Sounds like the typical right-wing shell game. Set up an organization with an appealing name, disseminate misinformation, engage in questionable practices.
The Democrats are weak in playing dirty politics, compared to the experts (Republicans).

Tom, it sounds like you just registered your support for the bill. It's sad but that's Democracy 2009, in action here in the US.
If I were you, I might be inclined to call my local congressmen's office and register what I really thought (pro or con) about the bill and with the phone call you received.

As a rule I try to be civil, but; it seems to me many of you liberals on here appear as a mob. Can't reason with you, and you just want to hang some one. Like the dems. do not pull dirty tricks also. I call it Obama speak. When asked will a government option health care program have my employer switch to save money he replied, MOST LIKELY your employer will not switch to the government plan. If one asked you to lend money and said I most likely will pay your back would you feel secure! I have heard him say most likely 4 to 6 times in this situation. August 14 in a Colorado town hall meeting is the most recent.

I have already sent my congressman my impressions of the automated hustle.
Boys and girls, please try to stay on topic.
I used to run a bar. Two patrons fight, both have to leave, no asking who started what. That translates to dual deletions for anyone who squabbles personal, off topic stuff on my blog. Please take it out back in the parking lot. 
Say whatever you want about the topic, hollar, get hot. But try not to vent here if it is off topic. Thanks for any efforts at self control.

It's coming from both sides...I got a call from U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland..my home town going on about the proposed health-care bill etc...I told him to go f*** himself...well it was dinner time and damn, it was a recording!
