I'm in one of my mischievious moods this morning and want to pose a question and maybe get a variety of answers or suggestions.
I'm guessing everyone gets them occassionally, the email that simply says, "Hi, how are you doing?" and nothing else.
For me it is usually from someone 20 to 30 years younger but once in awhile a man my age will send that simple 5 word email. I ignore them but sometimes I have the urge to answer with; "I'm doing everyone I can"....or I feel like dumping something awful about how I'm doing or something like spending all the money from the lottery I won. Yet in the end I simply don't answer.
I can't believe that is someone's pick up line, if they are just trying to be friendly or if their elevator doesn't go all the way up to the penthouse! What do you think?

as far as meeting somebody on here now days....im sure it happens......but not as often as it use to.......sad...but true I think that might be because of all the crap people are pulling with other people. Scammers and just plain psychopaths.
I originally came here to find love, but now I use it as an outlet for my anger and grief. Also, it does help me with a few things and has even changed my oppinion and views of somethings. Like late term abortion. I blame that change on RWR. I do want to write a book at some point in my life. My Beyond Good and Evil is like a rough draft of what I would like to do. I have made friends here that I would love to meet someday over coffee and just talk to them for a few hours at least.
Just my ramblings

Gee..I don't know.
To come to some kind of definite conclusion, you have to respond with something witty like..
"I'm fine, tell me about yourself.."
I'm being sarcastic of course.
You wrote a blog about him.
Perhaps if you were curious what he meant, you could have wrote back with a response asking about him.

Well I didn't write a blog about a particular him....it was about any who wrote a 5 worded email and no I don't feel like pursuing that. I was just wondering how other people reacted to that type of email introduction. They rather annoy me.

Wasn't that Joey's pickup line on 'Friends'? But without the cute little facial expressions and tone of voice, it falls flat, eh?

I get alot of "hi, how are you?", I also get alot of "your stupid", "I hate you", "email me at whatever.com", so I just usually delete those, and report what I think are scammers.
Sometimes when I think someone is genuine though, going with my gut instinct, I'll write them and tell them I don't mind friends but I'm not here for a relationship. Then they stop writing me,lol.

When your entire life of socializing consists of staring at a TV sitting next to other people, with an occasional glance at the side of their heads, "Hi, how are you doing" is a major achievement, often the slickest thing your electronically lobotomised brain can come up with. The capitalisation and punctuation even put them a cut above most of their peers.
If you would like a bit more than that, the sender would probably not be a desirable match.

They are "fishing".... to see what kind of response they get. I would bet that when you get one, you check out their profile. If you find it interesting, you'll make some equally short reply such as......Doing fine, thanks. U?...... and they will know that, at the very least, you are polite. Interested.... maybe., maybe not, but you'll probably get a follow up.
Now, if you don't see, or read, anything that makes you feel even remotely interested, you'll just delete the note and forget about it... and they don't have any more time invested in communicating. Lazy? Maybe.
I can remember my first few attempts at writing YEARS ago.... and I would read their profile, write a nice long letter.... and get NOTHING in reply 90% of the time. I learned to keep it short and simple and IF I get a reply, put more into the subsequent letters.
So........ my opinion would be, they just want to see if you are even remotely interested. And Yes, I agree with you that they could put a little more effort into it. .02

wrong! your all wrong! slohand is the winner!
i know there are some of you ladies who apparently think you are so special that all us men should write sonnets to you before we even said so much as a simple hello, how ya doin,,,,
but get over yourselves! lol
for real though,,it's just a way to see if you are interested at all before spending a half hour writing something specifically for you,,,,only to have you never respond... does that seem rational to you? you can't respond to a metaphorical "wink/nod/hi how are you?" from some guy ,,just to see if perhaps you are curious enough about him to perhaps check out his profile...is it really that big of a deal?

Maybe he is just so full of himself he doesn't feel he needs to exert any effort. Either way it doesn't work for me. On the other hand maybe it would if their profile actually was interesting enough to warrant a response.
