OMG have you been reading some of the blogs here? Whoop dee doo about the health care systems where EVERYONE is up in arms arguing on blogs. A government run system DOES have some benefits BUT it has downfalls too, just like any other system. sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo as a Canuck, let me tell you MY point of view (bash it all you want...it's MY opinion and I am entitled to it )

Being a single parent working dead end jobs to pay bills, the gov't run health care is AFFORDABLE since I don't have to pay. I've seen my family doctor, specialists (gynocologist, dermatologist, ultra sound technicians, lab techs, etc...) and didn't need to put a second mortgage on the house, take out a personal bank loan, sell my blood etc...to do so. It was covered.

Having had several surgeries which required more than a quick trip in and out, I did not have to pay for a hospital room stay (ok I COULD have if I wanted a private room but am I that vain? I was sick and hurt and sedated...who cared?!). I could have paid for the dinky little tv set in the room or waddled with my intravenous pole to the common room across the hall and watched the tube for free. They fed me at no charge. I was allowed visitors at all hours. And when I cried in pain, they gave me something for it.

Ok SURE it can take anywhere up to 2 years to have surgery for your knee or a bladder lift BUT it's free. These are LIFE THREATENING surgeries. THOSE are dealt with timely (contrary to what some naysayers will tell you. And if not, it is not by choice but a change in circumstance unforseen).

Sure I called my doctor today with a SERIOUS problem to be told

"I cannot get you in until after the 29th. You could always call tomorrow at 9am and hopefuly he'll have room for an emergency."
When I described the problem and asked if I could see "someone else then" I was told it would have to get okayed by my doctor and my best bet would be to call tomorrow at 9am and see if I could just get in. It's called ABUSE of the system that makes it hard for someone who NEEDS to see a doctor in Canada that can't get in because some senior citizen went to 5 doctors a day, every day for 2 years straight to "VISIT". Seriously. That woman and probably many others like her ruined it for us who need it.

Call me bitchy on the subject but sleep deprivation/insomnia should not be taken lightly and passed off as
"We can get you in after the 29th."
So what do I do until then? I've had 3 hours sleep in 8 days...I'm working full time...I'm trying to plan a 17th birthday for my son...I cannot eat...I drag around all day yawning, exhausted, but
"call tomorrow at 9am and see if you can get in as an emergency."

The price tag is attractive, especially for those of us who cannot afford health coverage, but the price to wait sometimes can make one go a little insane.

I'd say don't knock it until you try it but I really need some frickin sleep...I'll knock anything about now like your damn crocs with socks. shame on you...shame

I like opinions, thanks. However, I feel we can have this with out total government control, wouldn't that be nice.

A lot of mud slinging on both sides and still no way to pay for the new plan . Wonder why the politicians don't include themselves in the plan . If it is good enough for the people it should be good enough for ALL politicians and government employees One way to help fund it would be to tax all government employees making over $100k 25% Oh and do away with pensions and retirement for all politicians that serve less than 20 years And thanks for writing such a great blog, a kudo for you just don't tell Queen Fende r

My take on this....ive worked for over 24 years in the healthcare field.....rather than to sit back and wait...im glad they are taking a look at this problem.....but one thing we can all agree on....if one would just open their eyes to it.....on one side...you have those who want to try and cover everybody......but on the otherside...you have those that are making tons of money off healthcare.....and its this side of the problem thats stopping the otherside from getting anything done......rather than to do nothing......its time to find a plan that will work.....plain and simple.......cookie

The funny thing is, I hear a lot of Americans complaining about how much Canadians hate health care. But I don't hear Canadians complaining. And there seem to be quite a few of you on MD.
