Ain't a nice thing.
On one guitar The 'G' is snapped, on the other... the 'E'... I spent my weekend playing on another guitar, who's owner I must admit I love dearly (owner being my daughter), but of itself I am not particularly fond.
I have a new deck ( of this I am particularly fond). We, as in myself and some dear folks, celebrated this fact for the greatest part of the weekend. It does not take much to please me. In spite of tornado warnings (which in fact amounted to next to naught) we had a wonderful grand time. As per usual, lots of music, perhaps too much alcohol and plenty of laughter.
I have two brand new sets of strings, Martins in fact. I have no idea where they are. I havn't given up, I will continue to search. Untill then I will play what is available and continue to grin.

Elixir Nanoweb, Blue Steels and several brands of coated strings work well for me. They are about 7 bucks more per set but last about 3 times longer. Even with using the coated strings, I still wipe my strings down after every use.
Also, D'Addario makes a good set for acoustic guitars called "Coated Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings"

The strings are under the new deck...remember?
Remember?
Don't cha remember when you and H were serving drinks from under the deck, and your G string popped?
You don't remember that?
Then you went to get the package of new strings, and went back under the deck 'cause like you guys were hiding in case of tornadoes?
Remember?

My guitar made it eight years and never broke a string. I let my nephew borrow it for a couple months when goin' through my divorce. One string is broke and he had them soo tight it was about to break it two. That reminds me why I don't let people borrow my stuff.

For almost a year I continually broke my g-string-- and delighted in telling the tale to anyone who would listen..... turns out I had a burr in the neck shank, not quite so fun to say, that ruined every string I replaced. I love blue steeles, and d'addarios, the sound is much richer (to me) than Martins. Good luck under the deck hunting your g-string (and others) and getting your own wood back!

Ta-da!!!!!
and yes... thanks for all your comments. This was never really about guitar strings. It was rather about making the best of where you are and what you have whilst always striving for more!

Not so sure on the Elixir's myself. Have some of them. Not sure if it's weather conditions but mine peel like the dickens after a short period of time. G-D-E are the strings that have always snapped on my gitfiddles too. B seems to go on one of my guitars. Hope ;you find your Martins. Have fun with however many strings you got.
