The contractor and I never did come to an agreement, so I paid him for the work done so far, and we parted ways for good. He definately will not be putting my new roof on whenever I decide to go ahead with it. But........

his helper, who is a nice kid in his early 20's, slipped me his phone number to talk about me hiring him to paint the trim (that the contractor was supposed to do but said it "wasn't part of the bid"....lying jerk).
The kid told me that his boss would call late at night and tell him he needs him the next day, then will him call first thing in the morning and say he doesn't. So he said, he needs money and if his boss doesn't need him, and I do, he'll paint my trim. I pay him what his boss pays him per hour and he's worth it too! He already has the first coat on all the window trim and is coming back tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) to give them a second coat.

So the main thing I learned thru this whole ordeal is to make sure I have a written contract for all work I want done...and we both sign it. I hope the contractor has learned that he also needs to make lists, pay attention to what his customer is telling him what he or she wants done and stick by his word.

I bet he won't use me for a reference.......

Why did you just not tell him to shove off and find someone different? there are plenty of other folks out there that need to work but insted you chose to continue with this idiot....sometimes i don't get people?

gunn, well I live in a very small town (not the one listed in my profile) and it's slim pickins' on contractors. In fact, because this one had done previous work for me, I knew some about his work, where if I just picked someone out of the phone book it would be a greater risk. As far as sticking with him until the job was finished, I didn't. I paid him for the work completed then sent him on down the road.

No one in this town can say, I don't pay my bills....

OK well Alexander Bell invented a beautiful thing it's called a telephone and it works wonders to call over to the next county or community to find a decent licenced contractor use it sometime it might get you somewhere

Um, thanks for your advice, if that's what it's called.....

Besides, I did "get somewhere"....I showed one of your fellow "mates" that I've got a set of kahunas now too, and I'm not afraid to show them off....
