.

I have a gay friend who is a wonderful artist... painter, he works mainly in oils but he can and at times does, work with water paints. He also does the best sketching i have ever seen. And then i am sure his aptitude exceeds those boundaries, but he doesnt talk about his skill because he remains humble

Anyway, one day he said:

If i could give money to all those with taste
and give taste to all those with money
the world would be a far more attractive place

I have to agree, and his words surpass that of art... in fact that covers most everything. Cos if you notice, those who are educated in a particular area often lack the wherewithal to work outside theories... they just dont have the creative ability to express themselves adequately, to pull it off, or put it all together in an appealing fashion. It is for this reason, the guy who didnt even finish high school is often more successful than many of the highly intelligent professors who teach in universities.

Even tho he voiced his views years ago... his words still ring true as i see examples of it in many people, places and situations

Hi. Not trying to create any tension with you what-so-ever and I also gotta say that it sounds like your friend is well on his way with his profession but can I ask you why you made it a point to mention that he's a gay artist? How did it matter when concerning just an issue of an artists skills/abilities? Does mentioning that you have gay friend(s) make you feel like your making a statement about gays being able to do a profession just as good and even better than the straight lifestyle? Please dont get me wrong....I sincerely know for a fact there are gays who can out-do others wether they be gay or straight( it often all comes down to any person's individual determination as to weather they will succeed at something) and so again I'm not somehow trying to discredit you in any way....I was just curious as to why so many people make it a point to mention the gay factor when it has/had nothing to do with the point of them being a skilled artist ;o) I mean did his poking other men in the butt somehow add to his mental or physical abilities to create art ....well i guess that depends on what kind of art he's making thou huh

point take kev, and if you prefer i will remove the gay bit. I added it, not to put straight men down, but i have found the gay guys to be very artist in everything they do, be it interior decorating, fashion, cookery and displaying of fine food. Because this speaks volumes for their skill, i added the gay bit. Hell most women dont have the flair gay men have got, even in female fashion.... and we admire and learn from them.

so that was all, see it more as a verb.... to express how good an artist he is, if you will. But if it offends you, i will remove it

There are scenes in my mind that I'd preserve if I were an artist; my grandmother's face as it looked when she was deep in thought, deep wrinkles etching the face I loved as a child. Those scenes will stay hidden inside me. Give me charcoal and talent and I'll bring her back to life even if only in two dimentions. But that's not to be. I can only use my poor words in a futile effort to paint her as she was. Thanks for a beautiful blog. kudos.
