Why Can't We Be Friends?

Let us count the reasons. Certainly for some, perhaps most, it is because they think I'm a jerk. I'll even go so far as to say they know I'm a jerk. This is the one reason of why we can't be friends that I'll not take the blame for. Of course I place no blame either. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion and it is my written opinions that has led many to the opinion that I am one with which they don't want to befriend. No harm, no foul. I can't express my opinions at will and then be upset because others hold opinions I don't like – I'm not that big of a jerk. Better you should hate me for what I am than love me for what I can pretend to be.

And then there are those who think me a jerk for what I don't say. I don't always answer my emails or comments. I concede: this is the act of a jerk. I like to hit and run here in Blogland. I drop emails and comments and move on never expecting any replies – I just assumed everyone else was that way. But not everyone else is that way. Some are offended when their comments/emails get no reply. I don't blame them. I'll work on it.

And then there are those I've corresponded with. We can't be friends because I didn't measure up to their expectations of me. I take all the blame for this. I really love the fact that we all know each other by the written word – or at least we know each other's persona. But surely there are drawbacks. If you're reading this (and I have to assume you are) it is because I've already read it and decided it was good enough for you to read – or at least good enough for me to present. You get only what I give you and I give nothing but what I believe is good enough to be presented. Some posts are better than others, but for every one word I've posted over the years, there's probably been ten that I've deleted. And somewhere in between those posted and deleted words is the truth. But it goes beyond that.

I write with a certain amount of ambiguity. Sometimes, perhaps most of the time, the ambiguity comes from just plain ol' bad writing. But the times when I enjoy writing most is those times when I feel I've given you something to read into. The last decent thing I've written was a post where I used a work shift as a metaphor for life and overtime as heaven. And so, if we met on this screen and you read something into me that wasn't there – how could I blame you for that?

Perhaps we can never be friends. But obviously, I'm still writing. And obviously, you're still reading. Isn't that the way it was always meant to be?

Well, I know you will alway's be in my head. I've read most of what you've written and enjoyed all of it. You are one of the people who's blogs I look forward to because they are so rare, and they are so you.

A kudo just for that.

I think so my friend...I think so.

You and I are alike in many ways (now doesn't that freak you out?) Drop by, share something fairly profound and then run off without acknowledging other people points of views or even acknowledge that they read it.

Not sure why that is. Maybe it's a fear that they will furrow their brow and wonder what the hell we've been blathering on about....or if we just don't care once we've gotten our release of getting it out and putting it down.

Either way, we suck as humans.

And yeah...don't f***ing spell check my stuff this time...kay?

If a person has a good heart, and is fun to be around, I will hang out with that person.

I've always loved what you write, although I hate you for what you are and love you for what you pretend to be, if that's ok?

BTW I don't usually get into politics, especially on other people's blog comment sections, but I do feel it is the time to take a stand for all the melted snowmen.

I bet you never even gave them so much as a thought, did you?
