I couldn't decide where this should go, Travel, or Pets. Since I don't have any pets anywhere near me for once, I decided on travel. For those of you don't know, (or probably care!) my awesome boss has once again sent me to an amazing conference to learn new things to bring back to my awesome place of employment. I chose the "same" conference, in a different location this time. Last time he sent me to San Diego, which was the best trip ever! I got to meet my long-time internet buddy and fellow vet-tech Cerra (screen name used here for paranoia purposes. :), and got to spend over a week in gorgeous San Diego, while wildfires were raging less than 50 miles away. Aside from that last bit, it was a lovely trip. I chose Kansas City this time, partly because it's closer to home, and partly so I could take a few extra days after the conference and drive out to Denver and visit my very good friend Janelle that just moved there. I've never been to CO, and after seeing her pictures I'm practically drooling to be there. GORGEOUS! The hard part is going to be forcing myself to leave, I think. Anyway. After 4 days of hoofing it around the coffee-scented streets of Kansas City, I truly have to say that this city is pretty darn cool. It's clean, and has lots of fountains, outdoor places to sit and watch said fountains, the streets are nice to walk down, and the people are friendly. It's really been quite relaxing. The conference has been great. I haven't enjoyed it quite as much as I did the San Diego conference, but I think I can mostly chalk that up to not being able to hear another Dr. Dunbar lecture. The behaviorists I've been listening to have been great, and have given me some good ideas to bring back, and I've sat in on other lectures too, about geriatric care, parasitacides, and some others. I've gotten a TON of free stuff from the expo hall.. I can only hope that it all fits in my tiny rental car! My friend Cerra even managed to make it out here, though for her it was a harrowing 2 or 3 day train trip, versus my simple 8 1/2 hour drive. I've been having fun introducing her to Midwestern culture (or lack thereof, she IS a California girl, after all), and of course, BARBECUE! We've eaten at the same barbecue joint twice (Famous Dave's, which in case you're wondering, is AWESOME!), and Outback. Tonight we were lazy and ordered pizza. But even the convention food was really great. Barbara still snickers every time we drive by a sign for a local Thai place, but I studiously ignore that. (For reference, see my blogs from San Diego, Oct '07) I showed her what "baby corn" should REALLY look like. Tomorrow we're having a skip day: The convention is over, all but a few lectures still to go, so we're going to the KC Zoo, and a Cider Orchard (Yum!). Hope everybody's having a good week!
