Sorry to hear, TT....please keep nudging them to get the care you need.
Several of my friends depend on the VA and have found the service going downhill, as the doc's are pulled out and sent to the Middle East.

I am very sorry to hear this. I know you are right about the healthcare the Vets are getting is not right. I have a friend in NV that is getting VA healthcare and it sure does leave a lot to be desired. Have you considered calling your Senator and complaining? You have to raise a lot of hell to get anyone to listen.

We have a choice; To make government run veterans care better or to turn it over to private health care corporations that both make money on war, make billions on your ill health and who will bill the government quadruple what they should be billing. Anyway you look at it, the private corporations want to make money off of your bad fortune. They want to make money off of the fact you served your country but got hurt. They have absolutely no concern for you as an individual. It's all about the bottom line.

Thank you for your service to our country. We are indebted for the sacrifices you made.
Many opt out of VA medical benefits for reasons people are afraid to talk about. The services are great for small medical problems. The problem lays with incompetent doctors, lab technicians and nurses. Government bureaucrats on both sides of the isle continue to say they will correct deficiencies. You can gloss over a VA building with new paint but you cannot gloss over malpractice. Legitimate complaints are thrown into a pile and forgotten. If your case is heard, your name is instantly black listed. Those doctors and medical staff will not give you the proper treatments and diagnosis you require. I guess it doesn't matter, they still perform the same way. VA medical staff often have major complaints lodged against them in their civilian med careers, even disbarment in certain states! But the VA overlooks or ignores their background checks. Their job application is approved if these people have a certain number of practicing years under their belt. I never understood why the government created a hospital system for our retired/discharged military men and women. Civilian hospitals are everywhere, unlike VA buildings. You are right to be angry and frustrated with the system. Government health care at the VA sucks! Anything run by the government (excluding military) does not work. I wish you the best, strong health and hope something immediately changes in your favor.
Mission_Impossible139: the private corporations want to make money off of your bad fortune. They want to make money off of the fact you served your country but got hurt. You have the most brain dead posts I have ever read from a liberal. Every private company exists to make a profit. The basic purpose of insurance is to anticipate catastrophic losses that could financially impair your future... NOT TO PREVENT OR CURE YOUR ILLS!!! MANY insurance companies are NON PROFIT! Blue Cross Blue Shield have Non-Profit status and insures 100 million Americans. The U.S. government wants you dead so they don't have to pay for your huge medical expenses. Ask Obama about his "Take a pain pill to die instead of a pacemaker" policy.

Blue Cross Blue Shield have Non-Profit status and insures 100 million Americans You are totally out of touch with what is happening. Blue Cross lost it's non profit status in the eighties. Instead, they pay taxes and they continue to cherry pick, raise rates, deny coverage to those with pre existing conditions, they put caps so you may have to go bankrupt if you use the coverage beyond the cap..the list goes on. They are the modern day RAPISTS of our country. Wherever you are getting our info you need to check again.

Blue Cross Blue Shield have Non-Profit status and insures 100 million Americans. With the population of America at about 300 million, it doesn't sound a lot like capitalism if one company insures 1/3 of the people. Then you add about 70 million without insurance.... THEY ARE RIPPING US OFF. You must be one of those paid for putting the erroneous information all over America. Did you get your multi million dollar bonus this year or are you just a lacky who believes the lies?

Blue Cross Blue Shield State Run Health Insurance NON-PROFITS. Google their web sites and click their "about us" for status...
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Shield of California Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Hawaii Medical Services Association Blue Cross of Idaho Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (Missouri) Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield (Central New York) Blue Shield of Northeastern New York Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania Capital Blue Cross (Central Pennsylvania) Independence Blue Cross (Philadelphia, Southeastern Pennsylvania) Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming
Insurance companies pay 2-5 million and cap it there. It is NO reason to destroy the American health care industry to put a bunch of political beurocrats with NO MEDICAL TRAINING and POLITICAL BIAS in charge of life and death decisions. The cap affects so few people, you want to use one or two people to represent everyone as a whole. The government already bankrupt Medicare, bankrupt Social Security, bankrupt the next two generations of families for Obama's spending. They have no money to pay for health care. Democrats want to destroy private insurance and force everyone on the government single payer system. You don't seem to mind Obama wanting people to die instead of receiving a pacemaker.

Hey Mission_Impossible139, as an Obama liberal Democrat, you hate the U.S. military. Why did you bother posting here? twotall911 just wrote about his government run horror story.
We have a choice; To make government run veterans care better or to turn it over to private health care corporations The VA will never shut down. It's a cabinet level administration permanently locked away in government control. There is NO legislation to change this fact.
private corporations want to make money off of your bad fortune No they don't. They lose money on medical payouts (bad fortune). They take risks and sometimes lose, just like hurricane insurance. Many insurance companies lost billions and left the Gulf states because the government stepped in and changed the terms after the fact. Forced payouts when the contracts stated otherwise (flood insurance from high tides). But I do know government wants to make money off my good fortune (damn hard work) and redistribute my wealth to the bottom 40% who pay NO taxes. I help many people around my area who legitimately need it and never ask for tax deductions. Obama wanted to destroy many Non-Profits and use ACORN thugs to distribute tax dollars to community organizations instead.

I'm just now beginning to get a glimpse of VA healthcare. Thank goodness I have a least a semblance of medical training, otherwise I'd be completely flummoxed as opposed to just befuddled.
This is where I wish we could do a bit more research on our MD's . We're such a credential driven society that it doesn't matter where a person graduated in a class, just that they graduated. Granted, the requirements are rather strict..but it's amazing how much differential is between a bad diagnosis and a good one.

You've been through so much... in your life... And especially these past few years.
Keep pushing them & nagging them & use whatever Veteran's Support you can find.
Thinking of you
(And in response to Mer's post.... You know what they call the person who graduates last on the list of Med School?
Doctor)

Nightowl001: Blue Cross Blue Shield is NOT a nonprofit, in any way, shape or form. I don't know where you got that notion. See also; health insurance defined as " mutual insurance company: owned by its policyholders"

Louisiana Blue Cross Blue Shield Mutual Insurance Declaration Tax Reform Act of 1986
“(3) Special rules for existing blue cross or blue shield organizations.— “(A) In general.—In the case of any existing Blue Cross or Blue Shield organization (as defined in section 833(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 as added by this section)— “(i) no adjustment shall be made under section 481 (or any other provision) of such Code on account of a change in its method of accounting for its 1st taxable year beginning after December 31, 1986, and “(ii) for purposes of determining gain or loss, the adjusted basis of any asset held on the 1st day of such taxable year shall be treated as equal to its fair market value as of such day. “(B) Treatment of certain distributions.—For purposes of section 833 (b)(3)(B), the surplus of any organization as of the beginning of its 1st taxable year beginning after December 31, 1986, shall be increased by the amount of any distribution (other than to policyholders) made by such organization after August 16, 1986, and before the beginning of such taxable year. “(C) Reserve weakening after august 16, 1986.—Any reserve weakening after August 16, 1986, by an existing Blue Cross or Blue Shield organization shall be treated as occurring in such organization’s 1st taxable year beginning after December 31, 1986.
Reasoning for some state Blue Cross divisions forced to switch non-profit to mutual insurance company and accept specialized tax liabilities because of the 1986 tax code...
At its inception in 1945, Blue Cross of Idaho was chartered as a hospital and professional service corporation under a legislatively designed structure that granted nonprofit status and exemption from corporate income taxes. This tax exemption was given in return for tight regulatory controls and a public commitment to offer the people of Idaho a cost-effective mechanism for covering the expenses of healthcare.
Although Blue Cross of Idaho's overall corporate purpose has not changed, the healthcare environment has in the last twenty years. Commercial insurers and healthcare organizations entered the health insurance industry under a different, much-less-restrictive set of insurance laws that gave them financial advantages. In order to remain competitive in the changing market, Blue Cross of Idaho's board of directors realized that the corporate structure needed to change.
In 1994, Blue Cross of Idaho submitted legislation to convert its status to a mutual insurance company. Supported by the Idaho Department of Insurance, the state legislature authorized this conversion in 1995. The change in corporate structure gives policyholders voting status and allows the plan to form more direct business relationships with contracting providers. Blue Cross of Idaho now has the ability to participate as an equity partner in the development of its growing system of community-based healthcare networks.
The change also brought added taxes. While Blue Cross of Idaho has paid federal taxes since 1987, it had been exempt from Idaho's premium tax on insurers (paying instead a per-contract franchise fee). As a mutual insurer, Blue Cross of Idaho continues to pay federal taxes in addition to the applicable state taxes on all premium income.
