Want to change your life? Make those important choices and live the life of your dreams. Sounds great huh? Basically that is the message being espoused by Wayne Dyer and others who have learned to milk the mine of mongering motivational advice.
Here is a part of their life transforming "believe and achieve" pitch that they seem to consistently leave out. So, for a few moments let us put the transcendental double talk to the side and speak of what is reasonable and humane. Let us say that for the sake of argument you have the requisite abilities, talents and resources that could even begin to justify your desire for change. True, YOU may have every right to seek the the changes in your life that you feel will make you happy. However, in acting as a responsible adult, your right to change YOUR life does NOT empower YOU in any way to impact emotional and/or lifestyle changes on anyone else in your immediate sphere of influence without their acknowledgment and/or support. Real life is not all about YOU.
The cliche metaphor of life as a roller coaster has an interesting purpose here. One doesn't just stop the car and get off just because you don't like all the ups, downs and loops.
