I haven't formed an opinion on it because bills always change from their initial proposal to what they are when signed into law. But so far I have heard a lot of vague 'we needs' but no hard firm 'we will haves'. A lot of media fodder but nothing substantive.

So can anyone give a solid synopsis of the provisions that are ON PAPER?

No opinions*, no more 'we needs' or 'we don't needs' or your comments will be deleted.

I want facts, preferably with citations, links etc as to what the principals in this thing intend it to be.

What is it, or at least, what is contained in it now?

* If you state what you think the bill contains that will be okay, I just don't want to turn this into 25 comments arguing back and forth about something that people want to 'nip in the bud' or that might not even exist in the proposal.

No one can give true honest opinion on something that doesn't exist in it's final form yet, people and the media should wait for the final reform proposal before shouting talking points on bills that haven't been read nor, is it the one to be voted on.

And that is one of the problems Ed, we don't yet know what it is we are debating. As mentioned on your blog the people that want to manage our healthcare system are the same people that "ran" Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and created a worldwide financial crisis and we don't even know what it is they intend to do with national health care!

I can tell you what's NOT a part of the Obama/Dem plan...

Tort reform (gotta keep the ambulance chasers happy, you know, the ones who ALWAYS support dems!) or any mandate for meaningful interstate competition for insurance business.

I've paid for my own health insurance since 1985, and I MUST shop in Ohio...can't see what Ky., Indiana, Mich. or anywhere else can do for me. Under the Dem plans, the ONLY competition will be the Govt. in a VERY stacked deck against small business owners set up.

Dems/Repubs...same ole same ole...the same $$ people to keep fat & happy...just a few new players playing the same game!!

Agree with alivenwell, and also feel sure Obama and the creaw really want a single payer system. For me it is about trust. I do not trust the government much, and trust obama even less.

As of a week ago, at a town hall meeting, my area's representative said there were 5 bills being circulated, none of them in the final form.

When asked about lobbying reform, which would affect health care as much as health care reform, he dodged it like a poisonous snake, saying the lobbyists have a right to free speech. I suspect he likes the perks from the AMA, hospitals, and insurance lobbys.

Asked about tort reform, he said it is important, but took no personal stand.

A "blue dog" dem, he said two of the the four main points he supports were patient choice (no details), and "neutral" funding increase. When asked why there was no "nuetral funding increase" for the bailouts or war bills, he hemmed, hawed, and sent out a meaningless smoke screen.

I had a pointed question to ask, but the local politico he had picking people to ask questions seemed to prefer the photogenic (as in PR), and the blusters who spoke poorly and made no pointed questions, basically, stacked the deck for him.

My conclussion was that I should vote for neither in the future.

Those 5 health bills will be argued around, until everybody gets tired of talking. Then the real bill will emerge from a back room, get loaded with pork, and passed, before anyone can really examine it. Don't expect much for the working poor, the middle classs, or the small businessman.

Looks like now they would like it to require U.S. residents to buy insurance or face yearly fine up to $3,800 per family.

It kind of looks like the Senate Finance Committee wants the people that cant afford healthcare at all to help pay for those who can.
Thats a majority Democrat committee.

Well this has been posted for a day now and still no one can be sure of what is being proposed other than some vague generalisations.

Seems that we are still all arguing about how many angels can fit on the head of a pin.

It sounds like another government divide and conquer plan is in the works. Get us all arguing with each other when we don't even have any details to fight about and when we are all used up they'll come out with the real proposal.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
