Ha I typed the title and thought of one of my fondest memories.. Going to El Abejeno ..
It started when I was about um like in third grade when I started Catholic school and had to walk past El Abajeno on the way to and from school.. and it has been a life long love of the place... you see El Abajeno is a Mexican restaurant .. set up cafeteria style .. you walk in and get in line..they have seating but most folks just take it to go... you make your way to the counter all the while smelling the MOST delicious aromas and they take your order.. and prepare the food right in front of you .. "you wan Abajeno Burro?" "Que carne quires?" and there it begins.. OMG the hugest burrito you have ever seen..two LARGE tortillas are flung into a to go tray and they start building it.. Meat (always beef for me) rice beans lettuce cheese TONS OF CHEESE!!! salsa and it was to die for freshly made salsa the they would close it up and ask "queires wet?" of course put the sauce on it !!! hurry hurry!!! In the end it weighed out at just about 5 lbs!!! (weighed them many times yeppers 5 lbs!!)By now Im drooling but wait I cannot forget the Carnitas Taquitos..OMGG two MASSIVE handfull of Carnitas and big huge slice of avocado and another great big handfull of Jack Cheese.. top it off again with the hot salsa!!!! Now quick slide on down and pay for it HURRY HURRY!!! Always got chips and Guacamole too sometimes a thing of beans .. but let me tell you the food was awesome every time.. and very reasonably priced... especially since you could share what you had with like two other people and all get full!!!! ..I remember going there after school for a taquito or on the weekends for a burrito and as I grew I kept going back and telling everyone I knew about the place .. the little hole in the wall you could miss if you blinked ..and even tho the clientele has grown and changed they have yet to expand .. its still mom and pop kinda place ...I so miss being able to go there but I finally have perfected their recipe for salsa , carnitas and beef so me being over 70 miles away isn't so hard to take... great now IM craving a Carnitas Taquito!!!!
