~ Nine Eleven ~
Nine Eleven. Were we in heaven? Were we in hell? On this planet earth, or in another realm? We were shocked, but I ask why? Yes, indeed, a horror, so many died! Yet for decades before we refused to see into the depths of our own inhumanity. And crying voices were never heard, knowing they were coming from millions in the world.
Our nation finds comfort in the status quo even though we know what this means to our neighbors, who we often refuse to see, or to our global human family.
If we think only of ourselves, of our wealth, that we are "the best," if we think yes, no one comes before US… we will find ourselves again buried in the dust, but not in the dust others have created…. in the dust of what we, ourselves, have clearly generated.

pssst...don't let the drawbridge down. You know any minute...the 'firsters' are coming.
Just act like they're not there.

The drawbridge has been down for decades, if not centuries....
Individually, and not so deep down, people know if they are "firsters" or if they are not. Some may be somewhere in between.
I have no reason to "act like they're not there." This would be a huge mistake, just another repetition of history in the making.
The "act like they're not there" statement makes a very strong point, that many are highly invested in the very thing you speak of.
Acknowledging this type of presence, attitude or way of being is critical to this 9/11 reflection....Ty.

Your poem speaks the truth, historical data also back you up.
It was well written and thought-out.

In New York's fields the flowers grow beneath the crosses, row on row that mark our place.
We are the dead of 9/11 short years ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved, and were loved. And now we lie in New York's fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe 'tis you from failing hands we pass the flag be yours to hold it high, for if you break faith with us who die we shall not sleep tho' flowers grow in New York's fields.

Ty for your beautiful tribute...it seems a prayer @};-
We must look at our apparent adversaries, yet perhaps more importantly at ourselves if we are to truly honour those who died/seek to rest in peace...
