I got up early this morning; close to 5 o'clock, got ready, and made my way to Lexington, KY to the UK hospital to be with my sister. She was in awesome spirits, joking and cutting up. Not a worry in her mind, but focused on the positive energy she was sending out as she was being prepared for surgery. I was with her until the second they rolled her down to surgery. She assured me that she would be fine. The nurse's last words were that she would be gone over four hours because it would take awhile to prep her and the surgery was delicate.
At 8:45 am, they called us to tell us she was being wheeled into the operating room and that they would call us about 11 am to tell us where the doctor was at in the surgery. I, an my family went to the cafeteria to eat.
A little after 11 am, her fiance came down to tell us that she was out of surgery and that she was in her room asking for Mom. She sailed through the surgery with flying colors. Mom had came down from the surgical waiting room about 10:30 to tell us they were done and she was in recovery. The doctor thinks he got it all, but the bad news is he thinks it is cancerous. Mom mentioned to him that he had done enough brain surgeries to know cancer when he saw it, and he said yes he had. But the procedures required him to send the tumor off to lab to see and he would know for sure Thursday.
I was blown away with what I saw when it finally came my time to see her. She was in the best of spirits. She did not act like she had just came out of surgery. All my other family members said that she was joking and cutting up and "bright eyed and bushy tailed." When I got to see her, she had very little pain and was cracking jokes at everyone. Of course she had not a clue as to what the doctor had told us and we saw no reason to tell her until we knew for sure. So we sat back and let her be herself.
They brought her a regular meal instead of the diet ones that you get after surgery. She ate it up like she was starving. She told me, "Sherry, when they wheeled me into surgery and I saw the doctors, I asked everyone in there if they were 'prayed up.'" Of course they had not a clue what she was talking about, so she told them. She said, "If you are not prayed up, there is a corner over there, get to it. I will not have any "doubting Thomases" operating on me." I laughed until I almost cried. I could simply not get over her boldness and her faith. There was not a doubt in her mind that everything would be ok.
"Just start thanking God for what He is doing in your life at the moment Sherry," she told me. "He stops and says, what have I done and what is she thanking me for? Then He says, I have to get to work and perform what she is thanking me for." I was taught faith in that moment like never before.
She talked like this for hours as she joked and "cut up" with everyone.. The doctors, nurses, and all who saw her were totally amazed by her spirits, her recovery, and how small of a time it took to do her surgery. I pray that God rewards her for her faith. He is faithful and just to perform to the amount of faith she has.
