the act of satisfying your own desires....
Self gratification above all else.. to hell with who you step on, to hell with the heart and body you hurt, as long as you get what you hope for in the end, all is well in the world.
Toby Keith has a new song out.. Gotta Love This American Ride... and damn if that man isn't right about so much of what this land of ours has become.
This blog is not about doom and gloom of what is going to happen to the world... shite, this is about what has already been happening for scores of years..
The collective majority of "we" of this land, especially the young ones that are coming up through the ranks now BELIEVE, yep, you read that right, BELIEVE that much is OWED to them. After all, they cry, YOU (pointing their fingers at the elders) have had and taken so much, you OWE us.
Back that cart up there gals and boys... TAKEN??? Define your thoughts on TAKEN.. I need to understand how a generation that grew up to parents that were born during the depression, had absolutely nothing in their name or to themselves, worked around the clock trying to earn enough to feed the children that they had BECAUSE IT WAS ILLEGAL to have choice of whether or not to have those children, TOOK? And how the children who grew up with, and I am the first to admit it, more than their parents, but still less than some young people have now, still managed to take from this generation?
The collective majority of "us" in this wonderfully free country are here because the generations before those now coming up, gave their blood, sweat, tears and lives toward providing more and safer lives. It is this ole rejected gal's opinion, and y'all are way entitled to your own.. but this is mine... that we have become a nation that the least thing that goes wrong, because of services provided by someone else, by accidents that have and will continue to be a part of life for all time, have made and declared it open season to bag as many and hopefully a lifetime's worth of bucks for insignificant, wussy-assed difficulties that the forefathers/mothers and generations before chalked up to "life".
Shit, I can't even get my hair colored anymore without signing a frikken waiver that I will NOT sue the hairdresser should the color or cut come out to be less than I expected, because for all the shite in China, that would cause immeasurable pain and suffering which could only be lessened and compensated if I asked them to pay me a million dollars for what they put me through...
REALLY????
Or say I am walking down a street, talking on my "cell" phone, not really paying attention that one sidewalk, because of the change in seasons and the freezing (contracting) of the land and warming (expanding) have cause one of the sidewalks to shift a few centimeters lower than the last, and because I cannot walk without dragging my frikken feet like it was a chore to walk, God forbid, I trip (my own damn fault in all reality) but I get up or, better yet, lay on the sidewalk crying my stupid azz off and then turning around and suing the poor shmuck that just happens to have the house behind that sidewalk claiming that he/she is responsible for the terrible way my arm or leg or frikken azzed head is not going to be right for ever and day.. and it would cause me such emotional and physical pain to work among "those otherwise pretty" people, that I should be compensated for the number of years that I will now not be able to work...
REALLY?????
I am all for the poor soul that is driving along, who gets hit by some "I am the best and most popular .. see, my cell phone never stops and I have to talk with all those people because they adore me and would not be able to make a decision without my input" azzes who slam into the car and render that poor soul scarred and needing transfusions, operations and therapy .. but.. .you know what? That soul will most probably do whatever is necessary, pick themselves up and get right back into life so they would not burden the rest of society...
Or the drunk that hits another .. or the those that have TRULY suffered though no contribution or fault of their own..
And while I am hot and ready to kick azz.. I refuse to allow people to charge and charge and charge on plastic pieces of shite and then claim that, "oh me, oh my, I cannot pay" and since I cannot.. let's wipe the slate clean at 30% of what I owe and I can then start over .. you know who actually pays for that... you got it.. the working azzholes that .. day after freekin day, go into a job whether or not they enjoy the work, but because they were taught if they want to succeed and not be a burden on society this is what must be..
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS.. PULL YOURSELVES UP BY YOUR OWN BOOTSTRAPS, AND WORK FOR WHAT YOU DREAM AND THINK OR BELIEVE YOU DESERVE....

"I Ain't As Good As I Once Was".....neither is MY Country. Without giving you 30 years of reasons as to how this all unfolded.... I'd just say that..................... People generally get the leaders they deserve. When Americans decided they were consumers instead of citizens, it was a "done deal".

I have a nephew who listened to the doomsayers who said his generation wouldn't have the opportunity to improve themselves as much as their parents did. He was driving a new Cutlass Supreme, the car I really wanted but couldn't afford. He didn't realize that when you drive a car that has nothing but a heater and an AM radio for extras it's pretty easy to "improve yourself". We had nothing and worked hard to do that improvement. Our children started where we left off and it's way, way ahead of where we started. There may never be a generation who improved themselves as much as our.......and our parents generations did. We went from horse and buggy to the computer generation. Today's young people can never imagine the way we lived and I guess that's a good thing.
I'd like to remind my generation that we shocked our parents much more than we've been shocked by our kids. The hippie generation was probably the biggest shock the elder generation ever had. There are so many things I don't like about the way young people think today but I have to admit it's no more annoying than I was to my parents. I have great faith in the resilence of youth and I know they'll do a better job than we did. WE didn't do too well.

Somebody mentioned the current generation in one of the earlier posts, and I couldn't help but to throw in my $ 0.02...
Kids these days have no idea of the true meaning of "roughing it"...their idea of roughing it, is running out of text's on their cellphones!
Their first car comes with A/C, a CD player, ABS, air bags, cruise control, traction control: hell...with all this stuff, they don't know what real driving is!
They can't fathom making any tough mathematical calculations without the calculator in their cellphone, never heard of a slide rule (I still have mine!), and many that do know what a record is, only buy them for the artwork on the jackets, and not to listen to them because they don't have a turntable. *-Tracks? Cassettes? They've probably seen pictures of them before, but didn't know what they were.
They've never heard of DOS, Windows 3.1, Lotus 123, Cobol, Fortran, let alone seen a computer punch card...do they even know how to format their own hard drive?
I know young people that never saw a black & white movie - or knew who Peter Sellers was, until I loaned them my copy of "Dr. Strangelove"!
How many kids nowadays use a map, rather than their TomTom? How many of them know how to navigate a city grid to find an address?
And some people in Washington actually believe that this generation will get us back to the moon again...MY ASS!!!
I think they need to learn basic survival skills first...I would suggest tossing them into the military to become REAL men & women - but even the military has gone soft since I was in!

I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and shared comments on this blog. Now, I am not saying that all younger people feel that they are owed something in life, but there seems to be more and more.. I look at people in my office who have younger children today and I see the list of wants and have to haves growing.
I do realize that there are many young children and youth that are coming up through the years that will make a great difference in many lives... but this was more along the line of those that wail and moan how terrible this world is and it is because of those that were before them.
I was a hippie .. that era was probably a strain on many parents that had children gowing up then, but there were a few like me that were hippies because we believed that the world was evolving in a manner that would hurt future generations and we did the protests of nuclear plants and things we realized would be threatening to the lives of the younger generations.
With each generation there will be those that will follow rules and guidelines and those that will rebel, but I believe what I was ranting about was the lack of the younger people that are trying to help their own peers. It is not as it was when I was younger and that modicum of wanting to assist and aid others was a little stronger and this pains me.
Again, thank each of you for your voice and thoughts.
