I finally took the plunge and bought a treadmill!

I've battled with the pros & cons of it for years. What if it just ends up as a very expensive storage rack? Statistically, that would be the most likely scenerio. On the other hand, walking is the only physical activity I genuinely enjoy. Every time I've had a gym membership, I've spent at least 50% of my time there on a treadmill.

I tend to be kinda busy these days with work and a heavy load at school this semester. Fall makes for unreliable walking weather as it is, let alone having to smash walks into my skimpy spare time. Now I have a real alternative (at home!) to get active when I can...all year around!

I've been getting some projects done around the house lately, too. I'm still undecided about putting my house on the market, but all of the things I'm doing would have to be done if I ever expect to sell! The exterior of the house is a little on the Plain Jane side, which is why creating "curb appeal" is vital. I'm kinda worried when I see the completion of these improvements, that I'll only feel more mixed about selling. Perhaps that would only mean that I don't actually want to sell? I don't! I just want to move my adorable house somewhere else!

What I do know is this: I'd like to have less responsibility. Hmm...do all grown-ups feel this way? Like dumping it ALL! House, job, college, bills and all of the "stuff" I own...just drop it. Facts are, it all owns ME. Forget the treadmill! How about back-backing Europe? A cross-country run across the USA, Forest Gump style? You're right. I'd never run. I'd walk. Walking is much more enjoyable. It's much less strain on the body. I could probably go longer between replacing shoes. Crap. Looky there. I'm back to being sensible again...and responsible. Time to hop on the treadmill again.

Keep your aspirations alive. This is one of the things that I've liked reading about you in your blogs and some of your forum posts.

The reason that it is admirable is because I've seen what happens to people who set goals then they just sort of let them slip away a little bit at a time. A little bit here, a little bit there, then all of a sudden.... Holy Crap!!!! They are way behind now trying to get caught up.

Sometimes it's just way too overwhelming for some people to catch up.
There are others who have given up before they even gave themselves the chance at a better quality of life. They are sitting at bars drinking themselves a slow death day by day.
They claim that they hate this hostile world, but what they are really crying about is that they hate themselves for dropping the ball a long time ago. They did not heed the good advise and warnings from others who had made achievements or mistakes.

One of my nieces' dreams are coming true, but another niece has allowed too many negative thoughts or influences to come into her life and derail her from being on track (well, I guess that we can say "her dreams have been put onto the back burner until futher notice").

How does a become a billionaire and stay that way? Persistance! They are not the type of people who curl up into a corner and allow a passer-by dog lift its hind leg to urinate on them when life throws them a curve ball. If life happens to knock them down, they've learned to climb right back onto the horse and brush off the dust.

I hope that you never allow the flame of your burning candle (the spirit of your aspirations) to diminish and go poof !!!.

The great thing about a treadmill is that you can watch tv, read a book...other things, while doing yourself good!

I wish I had one!
Good on you

In my experience the exercise equipment that I've ended up using was the stuff that I enjoyed using. Treadmills I use because I enjoy walking and you can use the machine and listen to music, watch tv, use a cell phone etc to keep from getting bored, like a regular walk where you are experiencing new sights, sounds, smells breezes etc.
Stationary bikes I have not found especially enjoyable, they are noisy, cause chaffing in uncomfortable places and mine has some kind of moving handlebar thingy that is really annoying. I'd rather go out in the rain or snow and walk than use it and I do.

I know what you mean by your stuff owns you. If there really was some place to go and 'get away from it all' I would do it too. But our ancestors gave up being hunter / gatherers generations ago, probably for a reason, and there are no real wild places left to do it in.
