1/3 of the Senate and All of the House of Representatives...
So what are you going to do? Seems to me that maybe we need some fresh meat in that White House. Shake things up a bit and get rid of some of those bad old guys and gals.

A JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE – Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years. Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

545 PEOPLE By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The President does. You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does. One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common “con” regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red. If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ, it’s because they want them in IRAQ. If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them “con” you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees, we should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Our nation has always been a government by the people, for the people-- yet the majority of 'the people' want to sit back and play the blame game, thinking it's anyone/everyone else who is responsible. Wonder what the world would look like if we all did our part? Thanks for this post!

I bought me a bumper sticker on line the other day. It sez ~ "November 2010, teabags vs sleazebags!".

fresh meat in that White House.

I would assume you mean the US Capitol -- Members of the House and Senate do not work in the White House.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

Oh that's right...big business had nothing to do with the fiscal morass we currently find ourselves in.

By the way, this is not Reese's column. It is not only edited down from the original but had some things added in...and not by Reese who retired in 2001. 2001 is well before Nancy Pelosi became Speaker and the Iraq War. So you aren't really attaching Charlie Reese's column, but someone's cleverly edited version.

Thank you for the corrections 'Eastham' on both counts.
The U.S. Capitol, and the assumption that it was all of Reese's writings.

Either way, my point remains that we all need to get out and vote. It has become a common lifestyle for those we have elected to the U.S. Capitol that they can do whatever they damn well please.

I've heard on the news recently a comment that their seems to be a underlying rumor going around that the American people are just plain fed up and our Senators and House of Representatives may just find themselves out of a job. Now that is something that I for one would like to see. Talk about sending a message loud and clear. Enough stealing from, and conning, the American people!

Special Interests Groups
Lobbyist Groups
Government Funded Groups (ACORN) and so on...
Unions
Corrupt Senators
Corrupt Congresspeople
Corrupt House members
Corrupt Judges
Corrupt State Officals
Corrupt White House

Have Corrupted and manipulated both big and small business, by imposing taxs and regulations on the cash cows that feed them. All in the name of helping the poor and impoverished. Furthermore the Government and it's officals have demonized business into being the ones to hate, not those who have managed to turn business upside down and run them out of business or out of the country.

Business built this country not the Government, the Government doesn't produce a product and doesn't produce a cost effective service. The current crop of Government in both houses and the white house are filled with tax evaders, scammers and thugs, who are in bed with business behind the scenes and attack them on camera, business has been forced to pay to play, through donations spiffs and benefits designed to fill the pockets of politcians.

History has proven that when business is unleased to produce products and services without being handcuffed with over tax and regulated, our ecomomy booms. We have yet to see anything Government has ran effectivly and efficently or has stayed anywhere near budget, yet business does this everyday. The majority of politicians have no idea how to run a business (they never have) all they know how to do is steal the money business generates. Then Demonize business for making a profit.

Business produces Money.....Government takes Money...Governments principal roles is to defend this country from both Foreign and Domestic enemies, not attack the wealth of it's people. Nor is it their role to "Re-Distribute The Wealth" Thus the concept of the (3) branchs of Government to balance power not rob the people of prosperity, in the name of helping the poor, yet bleeding hearts find it noble to take from those who earn it and give it to those who don't and in many cases won't work, as they find it easier to walk to the mail box to collect their check for having babies or scamming the system.

So please cut the crap about how bad business is....Your Government is the biggest business we have, they produce nothing and want to take everything.

Unfortunately, the same 'ol thing will most likely happen:

all of the STUPID PEOPLE that are allowed to vote (and they outnumber the rest of us), will come out and vote for the incumbants. Why? Because they believe that "well, they got elected in the first place, so they must be worthy of the job - who else should I vote for?"
