I remember a blog a while ago, where a guy said that he thought women who ask him what car he drives are shallow, basing what he drives as a reflection of his income.

That to me is a man’s theory and not necessarily the truth.

I mean.. don’t guys when they’re chatting with other guys bring up the subject of what cars they drive? They cant all be judging on income, more a general interest.

I think its more likely that people see the car you drive as an extension of your personality.

What impression does one get for instance when you see a man in his later years driving a sports car?,,,
Instead of thinking that the guy has spent some of his retirement money or savings on the car of his dreams, hes often judged as a man trying to impress the ladies.

Some guys drive small cars for economy reasons, low on fuel costs etc, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he couldn’t afford a bigger or fancier car however, but just his choice.

In the UK I drove one of …..>>these<< now what does that say about me? lol

A man driving a six seater, often one would immediately think he is married with a family, when there could be other reasons why he has bought a vehicle with plenty of seating.
He may be with a club where he drives his other members around, fishing friends, football chums, even for church where hes often picking up other parishioners.
In a movie the other day I saw a woman question a guy who said he didn’t have any children, yet there was a child seat in the back, it was his nephew’s.
It seems that people are judged by the car they drive, not just financially, but it says a lot about your lifestyle, self image, and how you wish the world to see you too.

A pick up truck to many ladies is sexy, it says macho hard working man.
A woman in a pick up truck says shes barrowed her husbands truck.

A young woman driving a sports convertible says daddys money or hairdresser in debt.
An older woman in the same car says successful business woman.

A young man driving an expensive sports car says... heavily in debt.
An older man in a sports car says old man on the hunt for young women.

A middle aged man driving a compact says sensible and possibly boring.
A middle aged woman in a compact says divorced.

A person on a bicycle says poor.

A young man on a motor bike says daring and fun.
An older man on a motorbike says man trying to relive his youth.
A woman on a motorbike says one of the boys.

And quite possibly all the assumptions above are not all fact at all, but its how people perceive you regarding the vehicle you drive.

As for the title of my blog….

A mans car is an extension of his……..

I drive an 03' Toyota Tacoma.......She is getting on in years, but I still love her.

My view is, what does it matter what kind of car you drive. It's sole purpose is to get you from point A to point B. I equate the vehicle thing to cell phones. Who cares if you have the newest phone, or a diamond encrusted faceplate or an Italian leather cover...........ITS A PHONE!

True . . . currency is being de-valued. Better off to buy gold & silver, than keep paper money.

Wonder what driving an SUV says about my personality??
CHARLIgurl1

Sep 24 @ 3:26PM
I had to look SUV up as we dont call them that in the UK lol

Possibly seen as someone who enjoys travelling in good sturdy vehicle but likes the comfort of a car to which an SUV serves both.

Sep 24 @ 3:28PM
My reasoning for choosing an SUV was twofold, 1) comfy like a car but the chassis of a truck so a bit tougher, 2) great fun putting it in 4WD going thru the snow in winter!

Loves to travel when has the chance, but likes the comforts of home too, so the VW camper provides the home and the travel.

Car guys are a bred apart from other guys......if youre a guy...and youre not into cars...as we are.....then youre not much of a guy......in our eyes......our creed is to take something...and make it better......faster.......sharper than the next guys ride.....restore and rebuild till we have what we always wanted in our rides.....and then we show our rides.....drive them......take care of them.......and when car guys are around each other......this is our church........its not really an extension of anything......its car guys being car guys......theres even a place for a car guys woman....its called the passenger seat.......unless shes a car girl....then...she has her own ride.....and theres nothing wrong with that........cookie

ooops C

I guess since I haven't a husband and i split my time between vettes and pickemup trucks.. that makes me a middle aged successful business woman that wants a spouse....hahahahahhahahahhahaha

It's funny but here most of the Special Forces Soldiers have pickup trucks (preferrably black or not flashy) and a Harley Motorcycle. hmmmmmm

Good blog, GF

I believe you are right on the money with most of those. However I can't let a car/personality blog go without pointing this out:

A young woman driving an expensive car means she sucked that car out of some rich guys dick/ materialistic.

Did someone say cars? Of the cars I have I prefer my 2000 s10 Extreme. it kinda feels like a cars with the lower I have on it and corners well too. It has a bed cause you never know when you might need to haul something. The 4cylinder gets great gas milage and it looks pretty sweat. It truly is the best of all worlds in my opinion. And for the record my trucks is a boy. No female could possibly put up with me for nine years.

I remember a blog a while ago, where a guy said that he thought women who ask him what car he drives are shallow, basing what he drives as a reflection of his income.

I always ask that. I'm curious because it really is a reflection, not on how much they make but on what they are interested in. I don't give a crap what a man makes financially.
He shouldn't think it's a matter of income. I drive an adorable 2000 Chevy Cavalier. It's not flashy or "that nice" and i just found a small rust spot on it last week. It's doesn't reflect my income at all.

Actually, if i meet a man who drives an expensive car, it puts me off. I wonder if he's only interested in possessions, and i don't like that.

The car world changed in the mid 80's when they installed computers, and if there was a problem, you had to have a $2500 scanner/computer to read the computer to find out what was wrong. I have always done my own maintenance and therefore have been limited to cars from that era.

Currently I have 3 Mercedes that I bought for well under $1000 each. One of them I put 60,000 miles on before I parted it out for the others. They get from 27 to 38 miles per gallon of fuel.

I'm frugal but like comfort and handling.

I don't think you should ever judge a man by his car.

The bank may own it!

this is a good subject, but I don't agree with how you lump all women together and same for men. Of all the women in the industrialized world, there must be a few(at least) gold diggers looking for a sugar daddy, and knows they might find one by asking what kind of car he drives. And I'm sure there are some women that ask about a man's car to learn about his personality(news to me). Some guys are pick-up men. Some are sports/luxury cars. And then there's the rest of us, lol.

Charlie I love this blog it is so true in so many ways.........I loved your little car it's adorable and it's something I would pick out too... I do like it when men have big trucks I feel secure in them but....it is not about them and both men and women.....drive things for there personality and style, plain and simple and I also don't like being judged for what I drive it's ridiculous

Wonderful analogy as always I love your blogs too

Ummmm ----- Jerry Garcia fan?

To the blog,,,

I must be all screwed up.

Let's see,,, a 10 year old Dodge Truck, 2wd. If you have 4wd,,, people expect you to leave the house when it snows,,, and I just put some extra fags on the fire,,, and watch the idiots wreck in the curve.

A 10 year old Malibu - kids car.

A new Malibu - because the price is right.

A 66 Dodge -
A 72 Olds -
A 76 Laguna

Of all of them,,, the Dodge truck is me. It's not a macho thing,,, at least I don't think so,,, it's more because it fits me best. At 6'3",,, 280 (20 stone),,, I can't get into a sub-compact without lubrication and a shoehorn.

Opps,,, forgot,,,,

Daughter drives a 07 Ford Ranger, 4wd, extra cab.

It's what she wanted. But she does get tired of her classmates asking her if it's her dad's truck. Her reponse is,,, no,, he won't fit in it, and neither will his guns.

I had this car, and I absolutely loved it, it was a 2003 Chrysler 300m Special, had every thing you can imagine, and even somethings you would be surprised at. I actually would tell men, nope sorry, can't have an affair with you, got one going with my car and its more dependable. That car had the hemi, and autostick. Loved it!!!!

Charli...

You had a Sierra Cossie!?!?!?!?!? NICE!!!!!! I know a guy that was trying to get those certified for sale here about 12 years ago, but I think the Feds just didn't want to hear about it.

I don't know what it says about me, but I'm driving my ex's '89 Range Rover with no A/C and a sagging headliner, because I'm a little short on cash at present, to get a part removed from the blown up engine in MY '93 Range Rover, and installed on the new engine, so that I can start driving it (it's one of those things where a machine shop is required).

I wasn't going to say it, but I must confess:

I am a car-addict, and I have a problem...

I currently own (most with the prospect of being restored/sold) 6 Triumphs (TR3's though TR-6), 2 MG's, 6 vintage Land Rovers, a Range Rover, a Rover car...oh, and a '80 Chevy van that belongs to a friend living in Germany! I also have my dad's old Jag. English cars are in my blood - my dad had a MGA that he bought new, drove everyday, and raced in SCCA events on weekends, in the '50's. (I wonder if he ever met James Dean???)

I have a big garage that I keep them in...

In the past, I have owned...3 '60's Minis: a Seven, a Cooper, and a Cooper S, 2 Mk II Ford Cortina GT's,a E-Type coupe, and the 383rd TR 4 off the production line...I miss the Minis. It's amazing that at 6'3 and 265lbs, I can fit in one comfortably!

I'm still looking for the right '62-'64 Thunderbird, or a '63-'66 Suicide-door Lincoln Continental, wether it be a convertible (preferred, of course!), or not. I saw a '65 Mustang fastback a couple of days ago, and I'd LOVE to have one of those - but they're too few and far between these days - and pricey...

Don't get me wrong...I'd be happy as can be with a '08 Bullitt Mustang or a Cadillac DTS, but old cars have more class.
