Colleges are back in session and that means scores of psychology and sociology students will begin joining dating sites like this to 'study' us. I don't know it for a fact but I've heard of it before and I think I have run into one or two of them. We are going to be seeing ads with terribly unappealing men or women, lousy unflattering photos, not a smile among them. Certain other physical attributes (I'll be polite) that we'll just say are not often considered to be attractive and bad attitudes, lousy spelling etc. Signs of poor education, low class, poor work ethics and so on. Normal enough stuff out here but these will be done intentionally to draw certain conclusions about the 'kinds of people' that join online dating sites from our reactions to them. No doubt the responses or lack of will 'indicate' that we are shallow, anti-social whatever they decide it means, who knows. I don't even know if it's important or not but the couple of times that I 'think' I was the subject fo some student's scientific and fake personal interest I felt used by the experience. I wouldn't mind so much if they were honest and upfront about it but to pretend you are interested in someone just to draw out some information about them to use in your 'research' isn't cool not to mention it's the same technique scammers use.
So I guess, beware the newbies!
