Choosing birthday gifts isnt easy, Christmas too for that matter.
Most men dread the gifts arriving, hoping they wont be another pair of socks or another bottle of foul smelling cologne that they'll never wear.
My Dad has a collection of bottles in his bathroom that were opened once, sniffed at then put with the others to form a row of glass ornaments. He's quite fussy when it comes to aftershave, he doesnt like the over powering 'pongs' that some of them give off, proffering the lighter more delicate aromas, which are usually and unfortunately more expensive.
This year is another conquest for me his daughter to come up with something that he'll like for his birthday.
Most men like gadgets, or useful stuff, trouble is, hes got practically everything, his garage is cram packed with tools and gadgets, some hes never even or barely used.
So with a few clicks I was off on the internet search to find something 'useful'.
E bay's suggestions were watches and cologne.. nope.. hes got at least three watches I know of, one for work, one for best and one for any ol' day. and cologne? well.. ive already said about that.
So I abandoned e bay and went on to Amazon. After searching for videos and finding that hes watched most of them or wouldnt be interested, I clicked on books
Aha! there it was,, the perfect gift.
"How to do absolutely anything on a computer"
Yay!!
He'll love it! It'll give him something to read as well as give him something to do on the computer, and it will make him a little more confident on his PC that he spent a fortune on and struggles to understand it..
For Christmas Ive already got that sorted, I am doing ancestry for him and mum and will be buying albums to put them in when Ive finished.
I joined Twitter yesterday,, weird sort of thing... already 3 people are 'following' me, sounds creepy doesnt it.. 'Following' me.. hey, maybe its a form of internet stalking.

The worst Christmas gift ive ever gotten,
My work (bartender at the time) drew names from a hat for certain gifts.
The only perverted gift in the whole thing was this vibrator. A candy cane shaped vibrator.
Well, my boss knows how i am. Knows i was the only woman working there that had strong morals. All i heard was this huge uproaring laughter coming from the table.
They drew my name for the damn vibrator.
It's still in it's packaging, in a box in the top of my garage. LOL
Anyways,
Maybe he would like to start a new hobby? If you need any ideas, i can probably give you a few. My Dad is the hardest person to buy for and ive managed to get him some really good gifts in the past.
This year, he's getting an Autographed photo by Ernie Harwell.

You can't go wrong giving single malt scotch or good imported beer.
I'll guarantee that stuff won't be hidden in a closet somewhere. 
That's as useful as it ever gets!!
