It was a nice weekend, we bought some new drapes for the dining room, there was a bit of a delay in choosing them as I wanted to go for ‘pretty’ whilst Gregg wanted practical.
Our dining room faces the sun so the windows do get quite hot and can heat the room, so insulated drapes would be better… I found that a lot with men, they seem to go for what works over what it looks like. My mother would always buy what matched her décor whilst my dad would mumble things about it not being practical. Gregg and I eventually found drapes that were both pretty and functional lol.
After buying what we were both happy with we went to my favourite place for lunch, and on the way home we stopped in Home depot to get some insecticide, something’s eating my porch flowers!
When we got home, the old man from next door called, asked us to go to the fence. When we got there he and his wife were standing there with a bouquet of flowers for me and a new posthole digger for Gregg.
“We want to thank you both for looking after our dog and keeping her safe when she gets out and comes in to your yard, we do appreciate it very much.”
How sweet!
I brushed away a tear and thanked them both, I told them that they were very welcome as I love dogs and wouldn’t like to see anything happen to theirs. They said that not everyone would be so forgiving with their dog ‘Babe’ constantly getting in to our yard. I smiled and said I really didn’t mind. Gregg too said they were most welcome and thanked them for the posthole digger; he was only talking about getting a new one just the other day!
Sunday evening was opening a bottle of wine for me, and a whisky and coke for Gregg and we settled in to watch a movie. I like to light a candle that sits in a red glass bowl near the TV, and turn off the main light, its so relaxing.
A few minutes before we decided to turn off the TV and head for bed, the candle began to dance… its funny how they do that just before they die.
And as I watched the dancing candle with its final efforts to stay alight, my thoughts went to our neighbours and their kindness, and how touched they had been with such a simple gesture as to take care of Babe when she gets out.
Such a simple thing that meant so much to this sweet old couple who obviously love their dog very much, not much effort needed on our part, yet it meant so much to them.
And as the candle began to lose its light, once a beautiful glow that enhanced and graced our lounge, soon to fade and only darkness remain...
I thought of us as candles….
One day we too will burn out…
Our lights of life will die and leave only memories for others behind us...
But its what we do before that matters…
....things we do for others...
... even if its just small things,, things that need little effort…
..... but mean the world to someone else....

I love watching candlelight, and I love to watch a firelight, as well. I'm mesmerized by it all...and when you're listening to music...don't the flames seem to be dancing in complete rhythm?
The simple things in life, oftentimes, are the most important.
Wonderful write, CHARLIgurl.....

is it when you die or how you die??? some scientists swear there is a hereafter. a place beyond space-time where there are more dimensions than can be counted in an eternity. science may one day make an after life actually real. maybe it already has, as the future theoretically already exists.
