Religion doesn't directly play a part in my life or well being. Cause of 2 personal experiences I believe in a higher power, though have no clue as to what it is. For me it could even be matrix, but; ok with calling it God. I have said before all roads lead to politics, & in my opinion the problem some have with religion is when organized religion has political power. If I told you my religion is comprised of a God made of chocolate, & every piece I enjoy is a gift from God, would you care, no. However, if I had 50 million followers, with the political power to effect your life, some attitudes would be different for sure, the Taliban is an extreme example of this. In my opinion there is a cultural revolution In America, & this is what it's about, politics. I think this came to be about 25 years ago in a strong way, & do not think it will end soon. Except for mine, I never changed a mind by using the word stupid or insulting ones beliefs. Be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. Ps. I am not the white haired old goat mentioned in oct cat's comment.

I think it's pretty funny when you look at most historical wars waged in western civilization, most of them stemmed from religion. Actually, you could say this is true in about 99% percent of the world at some point, with the exception of Japan which did not enter into a religious war until western civilization and Christianity was introduced.
Often, the word God, in it's full meaning of omnipotence, people mistake that believing in something gives you the right for conformity or the right to "rectify" a wrong. This act in itself is entirely wrong. As we further into the years, although religion is not as centered as it used to be, it still has major impacts on our society. Politicians will not vote on policies if Christianity contradicts them. (i.e: the right to gay marriage)
You cannot even become President of the United States if you are not counted as a devout Christian. I think that's the major problem with religion. Religion and politics should not be intertwined, but in fact, maintained on a separate level and used maybe as a minor influence, at best, for the things that apply, and not the things that do not.
Someone once told me that God to them meant Good Orderly Direction. I kind of like to think of it that way, too. That God is a direction of good, and following it will entail a godly life. Cheesy, perhaps, and not what the average christian or catholic wants to hear, but I dig it.

Ps.. I am not the white haired old goat mentioned in oct cat's comment. Don't let her get to you, I'm sure you are a very knowledgeable & young @ heart person. None of us are free from sin or perfect, you are entitled to your own opinion as is anyone else, & I don't recall your opinions ever cutting down anyone else.
