This is going to be a long one, so bear with me.

I've been reading a few blogs here and there about different kinds of things. In one way or another, a lot of them had to do change. How exactly do you deal with something that, at times, can feel worse than death? I thought I'd share my thoughts.

Change is apart of nature. Most things affiliated with nature are unstoppable. They are subtle, they are strong, and they simply exist. It is human nature to detest nature itself. Through time and effort, we found ways to combat nature's forces, or hold them off for a time. One of my favorite quotes dealing with things of natural accord, in context, meant for a country, but in application can be used for almost anything.

"Long united, must divide. Long divided, must unite."

I'll be jumping around a bit here, but I promise I'll attempt to tie it all in at the end. They say that all is fair in love and war. I think essentially that is because love is a war. Life is a war. Although when we think, "Well, what is a war?" We might see weapons, blood, and the inner eye might focus on a belief. When, in fact, we all believe in something, and we're taught to hold onto that regardless what anyone else might tell us.

Throughout life, we can all think back to a time when we had it easy. Easy, as in perhaps, easy for us as individuals, and not to be compared against the lives of others. The chances of that memory being a place where you feel comfortable, or long for is very high. Your life was more than likely united in a routine that you had accepted, and for better or worse, were content with. This might be found in a forlorn love, perhaps a TV show, or anything that you found happiness in at some point in time.

Eventually, as we all know, that happiness changes. Again, as I stated that change is a natural force, and subtle in it's own way, perhaps you do not know why. I like to think of food in this example. When I was younger, I absolutely loved macaroni and cheese. I don't mean real macaroni and cheese, but the Kraft kind that came in that oh so tasty looking blue box. Man, I cannot express how much I loved macaroni and cheese. Maybe there's a food for you that you can think of in this same manner, a person, or anything of that sort, because it will definitely help you understand what I'm saying.

Point being, over time, I took a bite of that same macaroni and cheese, and it did not taste quite the same. The truth is, I had probably lost taste for it when I acquired tastes for other things. All I remember is that one day I ate it, it did not taste the same, and I continued to try it anyway. To this day, I will still make a box and attempt to enjoy the way it once tested, even with the "original" labeled boxes. I will add cheeses, or anything of that nature to try and make it taste the way it did, but it will not.

I'm pretty sure it's the same natural way for just about anything in life. Since change is constantly happening, and it's so very subtle, when you arrive in your realization, the change had already taken place long ago. Nostalgia will kick in, and you will long for it, and attempt to do whatever it may take to correct this change, but the change has occurred. It will not undo itself, nor can you possibly undo it.

This is the part where we think it's not very fair. We were comfortable. We enjoyed that taste. (Again, think of whatever you like, I'm talking about food, but what I'm really getting at is something much deeper, and if you're still reading, hopefully within you) So why is it gone? I think the simple answer is it has to go. If I forever craved macaroni and cheese as I did then, I probably would not have gone on to enjoy dishes from just about every culture I can name.

Truthfully, everything is fair, in a world where nothing is ever fair at all. Even if you were to study ancient warfare (and I often do), I doubt you will find anything that says losing is okay. When in actuality, it is. It is okay to lose things to change, whatever that thing might be. Because change is natural, and because it is natural, it is inevitable. You must lose old new things to gain new ones. If you do not accept change, you still have to deal with it, so why waste your time and effort in fighting a tide?

I've spent my whole life fighting things that are inevitable, and even when you do succeed, the rewards are not as great as you may think, or even as permanent.

I heard this quote from somewhere, although I don't remember where (It might have been a Disney cartoon) but it went like this.

"The past is history, the future is a mystery, and today is a gift. That is why it's called the present."

The end.

(I did say it was a long one)

I've heard something similar (or maybe I "adapted" it for myself) . . . Learn from the Past, Look to the Future, Live in the Present for it is a gift.

yeah.. and the sooner you learn that, the more prepared you'll be. But then again, learning some things only come with age and life's experiences... until you live through it many think it can't or won't happen to them.

Life is what it is... sometimes it's an uphill battle, sometimes a nice slope down hill and sometimes it's just a pure living hell with a serious kick in the gut that puts you on your knees...

Everything must change
Nothing stay's the same
But that's the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchange
The young become the old
Mysteries do unfold
That's the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchanged ...

You don't have to like it. You don't have to want it. You must simply concede that it IS.

this is so profound it is a blog in and of it's self. It makes me want to write and excavate my mind.
