Life on the mountain is getting better and better every day. I'm so truly blessed. For the last few weeks, I have been without a kitchen stove. I'm too stubburn to call an electrician, and too cheap to buy a new stove. I've been cooking on the gas grill, or on a small two burner, or the camp stove, but mostly the microwave.... ahhhh what an invention... Anyway, I got the items that I needed, and this morning I fixed the problem. It wasn't the stove. It was the wall plug, and although I was a little hesitant, I DID IT... I FIXED IT !!!!!!!!!!!.... . Excuse me while I get the cramp out of my arm from patting myself on the back...lol. I know to some this doesn't seem like a feat of amazement, and I am a very independent person, but mess'in with lectricity..... . Gotta draw the line somewhere. Then I got this stubburn streak, I was told to wait, and my boyfriend would fix it when he got here next Friday. Nope, Miss Independent reared her ugly head and told me to get off my butt and get the job done. I got it done, popped some homemade biscuits in the oven, and then I took the bacon and cast iron frying pan and cooked breakfast outside. I love the smell of bacon cooking on a cold morning. Almost like camping. Well, now that I've got the stove fixed, think I might just go bake a boston cream pie. Yep. Think I'll do that. Y'all have a remarkable Sunday. My wish is for all of you to have a day of love, tons of laughter, and overwhelming peace. Take Care.... Stormygail

Main thing is to turn the power to the off position before you touch those wires. At least it's a little safer that way. You survived...good job.

Your boyfriend is a lucky guy and will be proud of your accomplishment. Too bad that most women see everything that involves a tool is a 'man's job'. They know its anybody's job that takes the initiative to do it but the easy way out has came to be the way of life. I've discovered that people have developed a new way of life by creating the new rule of thumb "Everything is really very easily accomplished if you can just get someone else to do it" !! The bottom line remains that people are not angry with other people as they might imply by their words and actions, they are really unhappy with themselves cause rarely do they accomplish anything they can feel proud about such as you have done. The old saying "Busy hands are happy hands" is still well and alive, so keep up the good work there on the mountain and the mountain will forever be a happy place to live !!

Just yesterday, I replaced a GFCI. That's a ground fault circuit interruptor. And YES, my electricity works perfectly and I'm still here to tell the story!! Women can do ANYTHING we set our minds to!
You should be proud of yourself!

way to go stormy!!! I am proud of you too...and proud FOR you also!!
I am still working backwards....lol I used to do everything by myself...had rent houses I did the work for...fixed toilets...screen doors...mowed lawns (or weeded ones)....but in my old age....I want SOMEONE to do things FOR me....
I want to have the feeling of "Being taken care of"....ya know??? for once ???
but...guess I have to give up that fantasy and go ahead and..."Just Do It!"
When we learn what we can do, and have to do....then perhaps we can accept help as a "sharing" and not as a "dependant".....
It does make a difference! Congratulations on crossing that new independant line...just keep it humble( if ya can...lol) but know you can ALWAYS depend on your self!

Great job, Stormygail! I used to help an 'ex' by cutting the vinyl siding for him when he was siding houses.....and I loved that. It made me feel important, I guess. But electricity? No way! Whenever I buy a new appliance, I will wait for somebody to come over and plug it in for the first time. I won't do it.
Nice blog.......

Awesome! You put your mind to it & you got it done. Women are very much capable of things that normally are labeled "mens tasks", & to those ladies that go after those tasks & succeed, I say job well done!

Uh oh! Now the men's secret is out and you see just how simple this stuff is. We will never be considered heros for doing such simple things again.

Stormy, congratulations on a successful DIY project. I just hope you did it safely and took all the precautions. I worry about people working with electricity who don't know enough about what they're doing. Much better safe than lucky! But congratulations, either way!

Yes, I am just learning to do some things on my own, but I haven't tackled plumbing or electricity yet! There is a hardware store here that supposedly helps you do things on your own, IF I develop the need to mess with those things, I will go there!
Great JOB and I am proud of you also!!! You've spoken to all women and men!!!! "I think I can, I think I can, I KNOW I can!!!"

Get down with your bad self there Stormy. That is just awesome. You have every right to pat yourself on the back. You can make it, you don't need an electrician. Well maybe not now.

Awwwwww thank you all so much for the wonderful words of encouragement, and all the kudo's. Y'all are so nice. Makes me want to go tackle something else...lol. Well, maybe not. I did mulch around the trees and planted mums. Think I'll pack up the summer clothes and get them put in the shed. Y'all have a good evening.

That's great! Glad to hear it's working again, sure saved you alot of money by avoiding buying a new stove, I just priced some at our local K-mart, after delivery and all, around $400 and something for a cheap one, eeeek! I have one of those 2 burner things too just in case my stove breaks. Yes, aren't microwaves great? What a terrific invention. You do deserve a pat on the back.

Don't listen to Owl. 220 is safer. You do it wrong, it will just pitch you off. Water and lectric is the only thing you really need to worry about and grounding. Don't touch any other parts of the body to metal, the dirt outside or water when working and you are fine. I used to be an electrician. I learned the hard way and from others.
Excuse me while I get the cramp out of my arm from patting myself on the back. Here, let me do that for ya! *pat, pat, pat*
