I went to the mall tonight to buy a suit for Cleo's funeral Friday morning. To my amazement, a few stores are already displaying Christmas decorations.
It appears Christmas has officially eclipsed Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I suppose they could just leave them up all year like the Christmas Places does, but I think that would make it harder to have 'After Christmas Sales'
Christmas decorations year round doesn't have the same impact. Really, it doesn't.

I agree that it's crazy to start putting up the Christmas stuff so early. But, I will say this. I work at a hotel cleaning rooms, and there is a Christmas store next door. That store is busy all year round. I've been in this store, and let me tell you....they have ornaments in there that they are charging $40 for.
And people pay it! I'll never forget the life size Nativity scene...
The price on it was over $500.

I have a REAL prob with putting in Christmas aisles before Thanksgiving!
But to be fair to the stores..the Manufacturers require the stores to have the merchandise out by a certain date. Which happens to get earlier every year.
We cannot prevent that, but we CAN refuse to purchase any of it before Thanksgiving.
I, myself, will not decorate until the Thanksgiving festivities are over...but that is just my personal preference.

When my kids were little...i had to explain why the christmas stuff came out early every year.....i told them at our house....we cellibrate each holiday in its time.....christmas was put at the end of the year for a reason.....and its so special...that some had to try and hurry it along.....but we dont have to........cookie

Seeing decorations out already doesn't make me as excited for Christmas.
By the time it comes, i'll be so darn tired of bulbs and wrapping paper.
I wish the stores would chill out and wait another month.

I can understand why they put them out in the stores so early.. Everything is so expensive, it takes awhile for you to pay for all LOL..
but.. I think you should wait at least until Thanksgiving is over to put it out..
but then.. maybe everyone thinks they have so much money invested in it.. they want to put it out sooner..
and.. I do understand the price of those christmas villages.. prob 12 yrs ago. My Mom talked me into getting the Lefton Village~ Some of those houses were 60.00!
WHAT WAS i THINKING!!!

bussiness is bussiness and they take the oportunity to sell the last year decoration before to introduce the new one.

I guess they want to get a jump start on the holiday season since last year I don't think the stores did too well. Perhaps they feel that this year's economy will draw the crowds in more.
