I could be lazy. Let everyone else work harder while I play on my phone all day and leave the next guy completely screwed when he gets here. Show up late. Maybe I could learn to lie, cheat, and steal. Abandon my kids and never pay support and leave you with a car payment. Maybe I could just let my parents buy my way out of everything. I could do these things. I could be just like all of you. I'm not going to though. I'll sit as you bathe in wealth and happiness. I have something you will never have. Pride.

Do the next right thing no matter what happens, no matter whether you see immediate benefit or not. Focus on what is within you. Be a good parent, a model for your child or children. Love. Don't let what you cannot control drag you down. Trust in something greater than yourself. Give back. Believe.
You will be amazed at how when you do these things, everyone you love will flourish under your care, and it won't matter what didn't work before. You will only want the best for those who hurt you, and for those who simply cannot change, you'll find tolerance and eventually patience and love.

Wealth? What wealth?  I bust my butt at work to pay my mortgage and other bills and then have nothing left after getting groceries. Disposable incomen? Yeah, that's a joke. But, I have my pride. I don't need nor want any help from the government, I'll get by on my own.  Because when all is said and done, and I look around at what I've got, I know it's mine, that I earned it.
Pride is a wonderful thing.

I've developed a brilliant system to make sure that I always do the right thing, no matter what, so that doing the right thing has become "as easy as pie."
I think long and hard about the situation until I figure out exactly what it is that I least want to do...then I do that.
