The other day I complained about the money I believe is wasted on science. Shooting rockets at the moon in order to determine if there's water on it. So what if there is? Who (the fook) is going to make any use of it?? Really now, let's put money into things we could use right here on Earth.
I was surfing the internet tonight and found a link to a website where scientists are working on (robotic) prosthetic hands. This impressed me. Some of the early robotic experiments I've seen were fascinating but not anywhere perfected. These people have come a long, long way.
Maybe you're interested to have a look. The link is here: >> Cyberhand <<
There are videos of the demonstrations available for download. I'll probably download and watch them later. I'm sure they are worth the time to see how far we have come.
Can I lend you a (robotic) hand?

OK, now that's just cool. BTW many of the materials used in prosthetics were developed for use in outer space. Ok, i'm a nerd to know that, but its true.

Have to throw something in here on your terrific blog.
A former employer subsidizes research on tapping into neural networks for spinal patients. I'm sure that it is profit motivated. This is a public corporation after all. However I have seen this research come to some fruition, and witnessed it in action. The case I saw was a man, paralyzed for years due to a damaged spinal cord, actually walking, with the use of special robotic frames around his legs. He would make motions with his head, and actually think about moving his legs, and the legs would move. Of course, it was only a couple of steps, and very slow, but WOW. It was incredible, hugely tear producing, and one of the most moving things that I have ever seen.
Gigantic kudos to those scientists working so hard to help those unable to help themselves.
Thanks for listening
Peace

You can point to a number of individual things that on the face of it look ridiculous but they often contribute to the overall body of knowledge, many in areas not thought of when the experiment, research etc was undertaken but which much later prove to have practical benefits.
