You blog actually is why we need reform, since the Va program is an existing one.
Are you saying you want our brave soldiers to keep getting the same horrible healthcare.

The best way to fix the problem.......
Spend the time to write a clearly defined Health Care program, define all the services that it would provide to whoever, define the costs. and define all the sources of funding.....
And then get the members of the Senate and Congress to approve it...
This has been a formidable task over many, many years..... no one has been able to pull it off so far...... so the pieces that have been assembled so far are at least better than none...
It will take years and many bills to make the thing satisfactory to all, and probably all will never be satisfied..
One step at a time on this, it is a huge project.

As a healthcare worker in a rehab setting, I see lots of seniors scraping by, going home LONG before they should because they can't afford to stay and continue the therapy needed to take care of themselves. If Obama can make the system better, I say good for him. I'm tired of HMO's determining what therapy a doctor can prescribe and the nanosecond THEY think you have reached a level that you can do it on your own (and trust me - they have no clue), they boot you out. I have had to call APS to take over care of people that were sent home too early and that had little or no family.
And having worked in a VA home, I agree that system is broken! It needs reform desparately. Our vets deserve the best, and are getting crap.

This has been a formidable task over many, many years..... no one has been able to pull it off so far...... so the pieces that have been assembled so far are at least better than none... The problem is,,,, they are trying to serve too many masters. The old,, ,have your cake and eat it too.
It's not that hard of a problem,, if you take out the requirements of the special intrests.
Yep,, the VA is broken. But rather than fixing the VA,, they are proposing to make the entire country,,, like the VA.
REFORM,,, ummmm,,, yeah,,, we need it. But the programs being floated now, are not health care reform. They are health financing reform. And it is not going to work,, period.
They have had this type of program in MASS. for some time. Which state has the highest per captia cost of health care? Which state has doctors leaving? Which state has a shortage of primary care doc's,,, and up to a six month wait to see one as new patient? Which state is damn near broke from it? Which state has hospitols in court with the state because the money does not cover the costs? Which state is no "healthier", than any other?
Yep,, let's make the whole country,,, just like this,,,, because WE NEED REFORM.
BULL SHIT.
Control the costs,,, first.
The President said he was going to fund part of the program by fixing problems with medi-caid,,, medi-care,, etc. WHAT HAS HE FIXED,, TO DATE? SHOW ME THE MONEY. Hint,,, he ain't done squat.
The senate finance bill,,,,,, budget neutral. What the hell does that mean, well it means,,, If I do the math on 10 years of taxes and fees,,, it equals the five years of costs,,, therefore,,, it's budget neutral. WTF....
Nancy Pelosi has scolded the insurance companies,,, and tells us that their profit is the problem with healthcare,, and why we need reform. OK,, half of the people in the country who have third party risk financing are under a government plan already,,,, so that doesn't count. Of the remaining 50%,,, HALF OF THOSE INSURANCE COMPAINES ARE NON-PROFITS,,, like Blue Cross. DUH,,, BITCH,,, CAN YOU EVEN HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. So that leaves a grand total of about 25% of insurance compaines and third party finance vehicles that make what,,, 20 billion dollars of proffit. How much are these various plans going to cost? Is that budget neutral?
And now,,, they are talking about ramming the new conjoined bill through,, just like the simulus plan. 72 hours or less to read it,,, and then vote.
Ms. Speaker,, I have a question about provision--- -SHUT UP AND VOTE. Ms. Speaker,, this says that benefits will be cut to ---- SHUT UP AND VOTE. Ms. Speaker,, this is 1000 pages of federal gook that ----- SHUT UP AND VOTE.
For any person, who truely thinks the plans proposed are the solution, why are we not presenting them in plain, everyday English, with all the options explained. Just like a company IS REQUIRED TO DO BY FEDERAL LAW every open enrollment. If the plans and the conjoined bill will not stand up to scrutiny,,, is it really the plan we want.
And if your congressmen, will pull this kind of back room bullshit on you,,,, and everyone else,,, where are the twin towers of promise,,, for hope and change? Where is the open government? Where is the honesty? Where does their alegiance truely lie?
It can be fixed,,, but not this way. It's like milking a bull,,,, you are going to get something,,, but you don't want to drink it.

Since you are so fixed to blame this administration on the health care system, lets take another look.
For people who get their health insurance at work, then lets level the paying fields. All money that is paid for your health insurance by an employeer be takable as wages. Not every one can work for major companies with these great benifits.
Or better yet, Lets make health insurance like car insurance or life insurance--you purchase it your self. That way everyone can get the same benifits.
Also put regulation on the insurance companies as to what they can charge for their service.
Finally--since everyone has a thing about big government, then get rid of the department of health--diease control and government research--leave it all to the drug and medical companies.
Now you think I am crazy--No crazyier than the people who are agasinst health care.

You know what Im really sick of?? Im really sick of listening to veterans cry about the FREE healthcare they are receiving. You receive benefits at our expense that none of us have access to, and all you can do is complain about it!! But I dont see any of you turning down the free medical care. If you dont like it they pay for private insurance like everyone else!

Now you think I am crazy--No crazyier than the people who are agasinst health care. Who said anything about being against health care? This is just a bull shit statement,,, diversionary at best.
Let's examine,,,
For people who get their health insurance at work, then lets level the paying fields. All money that is paid for your health insurance by an employeer be takable as wages.
OK,, liberal plan one,,, increase revenues by increasing taxes. Increased funding,,, has worked so well in MASS. This is still not controlling the costs of health care,,, you are still manipulating with the funding. And yes,,, it's very easy to make this taxable income,,, just revoke the cafeteria plan laws in your IRS regulations. So there is no more pre-tax anything,,, like flexible spending accounts, IRA contributions, etc. Nice plan. And when congress get's their hands on that money,,, what is going to happen then.
Or better yet, Lets make health insurance like car insurance or life insurance--you purchase it your self. That way everyone can get the same benifits. GOOD PLAN. I like it. Take the government out of the equation all together. It let's the consumers tailor a plan that meets their needs,,, instead of some ram rodded one size fits no one plan. K-nuck,,, you closet conservative you,,,, nice surpise.
Also put regulation on the insurance companies as to what they can charge for their service. Insruance company service,,, what they can charge,,,, you mean price regulation for premiums. Sorry,,, that does not work. You are giving government control on the premium,,, but not the claims. See MASS. again,,,, boom,,, it's broken. Again,,, no control on costs.
Finally--since everyone has a thing about big government, then get rid of the department of health--diease control and government research--leave it all to the drug and medical companies. How many advances in medcine have come from "THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH - DIEASE CONTROL",,, as opposed to coming from the drug and medical companies?
Again,,, in the entire scheme of things,,, which one of these plans,,, or the unseen conjoined bill,,,, is going to control costs? The part seems to be getting away from everyone, is that the cost is too high,,,, and when we can bring down the costs,,, we can lower premiums via compitition,,, and have enough to provide medical services to those who can't seem to get it.
Now the conspircy folks,,, are looking at the results the government is acheiving on job losses, and unemployment,,,, and concluding that the government is holding the stimulus money, and not creating jobs,,, to pump up the rolls of the uninsured. I don't think I buy that,,, but their is a corilation.
Now,,, can you explain why this conjoined bill is going to pushed like the stimulus package? What possible motive is there for this type of action by the congressioinal leaders? I wonder?

But just look at how great the government is running Social Security... its the only legal Ponzi Scheme and it is still going bankrupt... Shucks even Bernie Madoff could do better than that.
Medicare...is working just great ...and VA hospitals and Postal Service ...why you could not ask for a better run systems unless the Congress was in charge...oh wait they are...
And congress plans to save billions of dollars by reducing medicare/medicaid fraud ...don't hold your breath for that to happen.
Our government has never been able to run anything without running in the red and raising taxes and raising taxes again and raising taxes some more.
Call a spade a spade. To provide more insurance to more people...it will cost more and a govenment run plan means higher taxes...there is no free lunch.
