I'm just a foolish old man
have lived life the best I can
still like to believe in fairytales
and toss a few coins in the wishing wells
I've always marched a little out of step
times I couldn't make it without a little help
never sat down and made a master plan
and may have turned out less than grand
once told I wasn't living up to my potential
maybe just a different view of what's essential
I always lived life one breath at a time
can said I was never a phony or a mime
all of life is an ever changing tune
and some verses just end all to soon
when you step on stage to play your part
got to be willing to play it from your heart
and when your playing your own song
who can tell you that you played it wrong
can't feel love if you put your heart on a shelf
always hiding it away from all but your self
Yes I've made my share of mistakes
had pain and more than a few heartbreaks
but that's just parts that make up who I am
life is good even if I never hit a grand slam
